If you are mining GroestlCoin (GRS) with AMD GPUs, you might want to check out this new fork of sgminer called grs-sgminer by srcxxx that comes with optimized kernel for higher performance for mining GRS and DiamondCoin (source). Do note that the miner may not work on older AMD GPUs and the performance may vary based on the video driver version you are using, people are reporting various results with different drivers. The windows binary we have compiled and provide below did give us a performance of about 15 MHS on a Radeon R9 280x GPU running the latest beta drivers 14.6 from AMD, but your results may vary. You are welcome to try it out and report your performance and experience with different GPUs and driver version in the comments below.

The ccMiner software miner for Nvidia GPUs has received an update of the source code adding some improvements for the Groestlcoin (GRS) miners that brings a nice performance increase. We have built a windows binary based on the latest source as it is not available as an official release yet and have tried it to see what is the boost in terms of hashrate you could expect to get. On an Nvidia GeForce GTX 780 Ti GPU we have managed to get from about 7500 KHS to about 9000 KHS with the latest code, so definitely a nice improvement if you are mining GRS.

Do note that the windows binary you can download below is compiled for Computer 3.5 cards, so it might not work on older cards. It is also compiled with Visual Studio 2012, so if you do not have Visual C++ Redistributable for Visual Studio 2012 you will have to download and install it. If you want to compile the miner from the latest source code yourself you can take a look at our guide for compiling CudaMiner as it will work out just fine for compiling ccMiner as well.

GroestlCoin (GRS) is a new cryptocurrency utilizing the Groestl algorithm for Proof-Of-Work. To cut it short essentially GroestlCoin is about one thing – making efficient mining possible for EVERYBODY who wants to mine – whether on an old CPU or a new GPU. The Groestl algorithm is possibly the single most GPU-efficient algorithm implemented in any cryptocoin on the market. A comparison between many different algorithms shows that it has the lowest power consumption, heat, and noise of the array of newer ones being implemented in cryptocoins.

GroestlCoin is also notably accommodating for CPU mining as well, with only a 5x-10x hash difference between CPU/GPU – a much smaller spread than that of Scrypt coins. In essence this means that everybody, especially including those who can’t afford or want to invest in expensive mining equipment, can mine GroestlCoin and get reasonable rewards. Through these features GroestlCoin embodies the fairly distributed & decentralized nature of Cryptocurrency. Anyone can mine effectively, with minimal resource consumption and nuisance.
