Nvidia has just announced their new GeForce GTX 980 Ti GPU, a model that should take the space in between GTX 980 and the Titan X both in terms of performance and in terms of price. The GTX 980 Ti is essentially a slightly stripped down version of the Titan X GPU with slightly less CUDA cores that are 2816 here and with a bit less TMUs – 176 units. The other significant difference in comparison with the Titan X is that the GTX 980 Ti comes with 6GB of video memory instead of 12 GB. The recommended end user price of the new GTX 980 Ti GPUs is $649 USD so it is significantly better priced as compared to the Titan X and considering that it should be showing a very similar performance it sounds like an interesting product not only for gaming, but for crypto mining as well.


So we are taking for a spin a single Nvidia GTX 980 Ti to compare it to the the GTX 980 and the Titan X GPUs using ccMiner 1.5.45 SP-MOD. Note that we are not using the latest version of ccMiner in order to compare the results in terms of hashrate on the other GPUs that we ran a bit ago. We’ve compared using the latest ccMiner as well and there is notable performance increase in some algorithms such as Quark, but for most others there is no significant difference. Just as a reference the GTX 980 Ti using the latest ccMiner 1.5.51 SP-MOD manages to provide a 23230 KHS hashrate for mining Quark, but as we’ve said there is not much of a difference with other algorithms. Other than that as you can see from the results the GTX 980 Ti GPU is very close in terms of performance as compared to the Titan X and much faster than the GTX 980. So if you are looking for a new high-end Nvidia GPU for gaming and crypto mining when not using your PC, then the GTX 980 Ti does seem like a great choice…


There are probably not much, if any, people out there mining for crypto coins on the latest and fastest Nvidia Geforce GTX Titan X GPUs, but that does not mean that the video cards based on them are not good for mining. The GTX Titan X does come with 12 GB of video memory, something that is not very useful for crypto mining, but it also comes with 50% more CUDA cores as compared to GTX 980. So you might expect to get up to about 50% performance in crease in terms of hashrate, but that performance increase may come up with twice or even more higher price compared to how much a single GTX 980 costs. So it seems that the GTX Titan X is not very price/performance efficient choice and it might be better to go for two GTX 980s instead not only for mining, but also for gaming as well.


Nevertheless we still ran some benchmarks to see what is the actual hashrate difference between a GTX 980 and a GTX Titan X GPU using the latest ccMiner 1.5.45 SP-MOD. Do note that the Titan X is still a Compute 5.2 GPU, just like the GTX 980, so it does not bring a new evolution in terms of compute capabilities – just more raw power. As you can see from the table with the results we are seeing in between 30% to almost 50% performance increase in the hashrate of the GTX Titan X GPU as compared to what the GTX 980 currently offers. As we have already mentioned the price difference compared to the actual performance you get makes the GTX 980 the better choice for mining, and you can go for two of these instead of a single Titian X.


Time for an update to our Miner Control based package for GTX 750 Ti GPUs. We’ve included an up to date ccMiner fork 1.5.42-git windows binary from SP (compiled for Maxwell cards with Compute 5.0 and 5.2 only). The GTX 750 Ti package is configured to work with NiceHash, WestHash and Yaamp pools, supporting the more profitable X11, X13, X14, X15, Keccack, Lyra2RE and Quark algorithms. We have also added the WhirlpoolX algorithm as well as Qubit, though it still seems that mining Quark/Qubit is still the most profitable on Nvidia GPUs most of the time as compared to other popular algorithms.

You can download the package below with settings already set for non-overclocked GTX 750 Ti, if you are going to be using it on multiple card mining rigs you need to multiply the hashrate for the algorithms supported. The package will also function just fine on GTX 960, GTX 970 and GTX 980 cards where you would need to set the power usage and hashrate numbers for your respective hardware to get the correct calculations working. To be ready to use it you just need to update the account settings for each pool to reflect your BTC payment address. Do note that the default configuration that we have left is set to mine from time to time for the author of the software (Miner Control) as a donation alternative, but you can change that setting should you wish to.
