The Siamining mining pool for SiaCoin (SC) that we have already covered a couple of times has something new and interesting for the people mining SIA. They have released a new Stratum-only OpenCL GPU miner for their mining pool that is designed to be fast, lightweight and easy to use. Do note the miner is supporting only SiaMining’s Stratum protocol implementation as there are a few different Stratum approaches, so the miner will not work with other pools unless they have implemented the same Stratum support. We have tried the Marlin miner and it seems to work pretty well, delivering what the devs promise indeed.
What we don’t like about it however is that there is no source code published on their GitHub and only a 32-bit Windows binary and 64-bit are available for users to download. Since there is no source you cannot compile the miner yourself and that may be a limiting factor for some users. Do note that even though the miner is OpenCL one you can also use it on Nvidia GPUs as well as on AMD, unfortunately tpruvot’s ccMiner fork does not yet support the Stratum protocol used by SiaMining. So if you are Ok with downloading binary releases, you can do so and try the Marlin miner yourself… that is if you are mining SiaCoin on the SiaMining pool or are planning to check it out.
The Siamining mining pool for Siacoin (SC) we have written about recently has also added Stratum support. Their Stratum implementation however is a bit different from the one that Suprnova has introduced a few days ago for their mining pool and thus requires users to use a different version of sgminer. While the Suprnova Stratum implementation is more of a getwork over Stratum and based on our tests it does perform very well, Siamining is claiming that their solution in true a Stratum support, so in theory it should result in slightly better efficiency. Of course the Siamining mining pool does still support the regular Siacoin Go pool miner that also produces very low percentage of stale shares, though with Stratum support the results should be even better now.
Below you can download a 32-bit Windows binary of the sgminer 5.4.0 fork for Siamining with Stratum support (source). Do note that this miner will currently only work with the Stratum Mining Protocol for Sia implemented by Siamining. The miner works on both AMD and Nvidia GPUs, so you should be covered regardless of the GPUs you have available, though it uses OpenCL for both. Our initial tests are showing really good results in terms of efficiency and lack of stale shares, so it seems that things are already working pretty well with this Stratum implementation for Siacoin (SC) pool mining at Siamining. Siacoin (SC) is getting a lot of attention lately and there is now a new fork of the miner available made by Genoil (source). The Sia GPU Miner fork by Genoil is for OpenCL, though it works on both AMD and Nvidia and provides some performance optimizations along with other interesting features such as the ability to load external OpenCL kernel file that might be useful for people that want to try modifying or optimizing the CL file. Genoil reports that his optimized OpenCL kernel is capable of providing roughly +18% performance increase on a 7950 and we are seeing some performance boost on Nvidia as well, though more like 3-4% boost on a GTX 970. Nevertheless the fork by Genoil does offer some performance improvement over the Siacoin default miner as it has taken that OpenCL Go miner kernel as a base and even more improvements could be possible for faster performance.
We have a working 64-bit Windows binary available for download below that you might want to try. We have tested it and can confirm that it works on both Sia Nanopool and Siamining pool, though for some reason the hashrate reported by the miner is a bit higher for Nanopool than for the Siamining pool. Do note that this miner does require you to run a separate instance for each GPU in your system, it will by default run only on the first video card it finds. So while things do look very promising for this fork it apparently can use a bit more work to become as easy to be used as the Siacoin Go miner and maybe even better performance wise.
