Updated Ethereum Ethminer with Nvidia CUDA Support

Genoil, the developer of the Ethminer fork with Nvidia CUDA support (source) has implemented some updates to the code of the project contributed by SP and tpruvot that reduce the load on the CPU when the miner is running. Also the default worksize has been increased form 64 to 128, but other than that there should be no changes affecting the performance of the miner. The reduction of CPU usage may come at the cost of slight hashrate drop, but there is a command line parameter now that you can use to stick with the higher CPU load and get the slightly higher performance --high-cpu-load, so it is up to you to decide. We have updated our package with Geth and Ethminer for OpenCL and CUDA with the latest version of the Ethminer CUDA binary for Windows (requires 64-bit Windows), so you can download and try it. The Ethminer CUDA fork should work on Compute 2.0 or newer GPUs, we have tested it with a Compute 2.1 and it is working fine, but don’t forget that you can run Ethminer in OpenCL mode as well on Nvidia-based video cards and not only on AMD if you are having trouble with the CUDA support or the hashrate you get is lower as compared to OpenCL.

Download the updated Ethminer CUDA fork compiled for Windows and ready to be used…

Hash rate down from 8Mhash to 3Mhash on my GTX 570 with this version. My cpu load is 11% with old version.

Max, have you tried adding the command line parameter --high-cpu-load, it should bring back the higher CPU load and the old performance?

How to set a low load on the miner to be able to use computer?

I don’t think that’s possible with the gpu miner. Even if this new version is hashing slower (less pre-processing from the cpu), it’s still doing way too much work to refresh your display like normal. With the CPU miner however, you can specify the amount of threads to use, which is what I think you’re talking about

thanks for –gpu-batch-size !

On old version of miner: ~20.8 – 21.1mh/s w/~9-11% cpu load
On new version of miner: ~20.5 – 20.8mh/s w/~.1% cpu load

This is a single GTX 980 with i7-5930k.

I prefer less cpu load.

I am getting the following error “CUDA driver version is insufficient for CUDA runtime version” even though I have updated to the latest CUDA drivers.
Any advice?
Thank you in advance.

Jacke, what video card are you using and what driver version you have installed?

The CUDA version of ethminer is compiled with CUDA 7.5, so you need to use a more recent driver that as support for it.

You can try running the Nvidia GPU in OpenCL mode, it should work that way too…

Thank you for ur quick answer.

I am using 3xGTX750Ti.. with CUDA 7.0. I just updated drivers to CUDA 7.5 and im getting the same error.
I tried Nvidia GPU in OpenCL mode and the ethminer hangs with same error.

IS there any other requirement as…Visual C++??? I have MS Visual C++ 2012 x64 installed.
ccminer is running fine with this configuration.

Thank you in advance for ur help.

Jacke, this is really weird, no other specific requirements. Have you tried running the non CUDA version of ethminer in GPU mode?

It seems that a lot of people are having trouble with GTX 750 Ti and ethminer, but these are usually related to lower hashrate.

Finally It worked when I added “--high-cpu-load” parameter!!!
Thank you for your support.

Any idea why I’m getting intermittent 0/HS hash rates? This wasn’t happening with your previous version but now I’m seeing it about every 4th or 5th line.

I messed up. I actually meant to say that THIS version is working for me but the newer one is not (I meant to comment on that post, not this one). It’s stuttering every few seconds and reports random 0h/s and my overall hashrate is about half of what it was previously. This is with a Geforce 760 so I’m not getting much anyway but I was hitting 5-6MH/s and with the latest version that’s down to 2.5-3.5.

There is now a new version available that should most likely work better on GTX 760: https://cryptomining-blog.com/7557-the-latest-ethminer-0-9-41-genoil-1-0-5-for-windows/
