Crowdfunding Campaign for ccMiner fork With NeoScrypt Support

It seems that djm34, has been working on adding NeoScrypt algorithm support to ccMiner and he apparently already has a well performing work in progress fork of ccMiner. The Nvidia GPUs ccMiner fork with NeoScrypt support however is going to be made public if there is enough user interest and the crowdfunding reaches the total sum of 5 BTC in the form of donations going to the author. If the crowdfunding goal is not reached the miner might be made available only to the people that have donated. Also further improvements in the hashrate are probably possible, so the miner might get even faster over time.

GTX 780ti: 212 KHS
GTX 980: 427 KHS

Is anyone even GPU mining anymore?
Asking $1000 donation to release a miner that will run in the red currently. Makes sense.

Looking at just yaamp and nicehash, I would say yes, there are some people who still gpu mine. Not everyone pays for electricity (college kids), or the electricity cost is insignificant (especially if you are running the computer all day for other purposes). I’m not sure about miners with dedicated systems, I assume it is not raining coin down on them, but I assume most see it as the price of btc will rise in the future to cover current mining. I’m still squeaking out more bitcoin per day via mining then I would be purchasing it.
Now getting into GPU mining right now would be a fools errand (you’d never recoup the btc cost of a new GPU from just mining).

Good point, I didn’t think about people who don’t pay for electricity.
It seems that the only way to make it worth it is if you don’t pay for power or your power costs are dirt cheap. I was mining with a very efficient system in an area where power is very, very cheap, and I was still barely getting a profit. Like, BARELY. Now that BTC has dipped yet again, every algo is in the red. Friend had a similar situation where he’s been mining about a year with a great setup, and he’s pulled in ~0.5 BTC. Whoopedy doo.
I guess ultimately, it depends on your situation.. but it does seem like GPU mining has taken a drastic downturn compared to the same time last year. About a year ago there was potential for dollars a day from a not too expensive setup. When I started, I made 0.5 BTC in two weeks. Now, that has turned into pennies a day.

It certainly has changed significantly “over time” (and as you noted that time frame hasn’t been all that long). Definitely not getting dollars a day from an inexpensive setup anymore ;)
