Download cpuminer for Heavycoin CPU Crypto Currency Mining

Heavycoin (HVC) is a new CPU only mined crypto currency that is just launching/launched and we have compiled for Windows the modified cpuminer software that you can use aside from the wallet to solo mine the coin at launch, while the official pools start working properly. Heavycoin uses a new algorithm called HEFTY1 that makes the coins a promising alternative to the likes of Primecoin (XPM) as a crypto that can only be mined on a CPU (at least for now). You can use the miner to solo mine on Windows systems after HVC mining officially starts on March 8th 12:00 UTC. The archive also includes a version of the minerd for the http://hvc.1gh.com/ pool, so far the only working pool for Heavycoin. Note that the pools apparently uses a specially modified version to work for them and it might not work on other pools, that is why we have included both versions in the archive.

Testing Protoshares (PTS) Mining with GeForce GTX 750 Ti

The GeForce GTX 750 Ti are performing quite well for Scrypt mining as well as some other algorithms when used with the cudaminer software miner, however there are other crypto algorithms that are not yet supported by the cudaminer, but can bi mined on Nvidia-based GPUs. One such example is Protoshares (Bitshares-PTS) where there are just a few pools and a few GPU miners available and not all pools and GPU miners are compatible with each other. So we decided to try the different pools with their particular GPU miner with support for Nvidia on a GeForce GTX 750 Ti video card to see what works best and where you can get the highest possible performance out of your hardware. The results below are from a GeForce GTX 750 Ti video card running at stock frequencies, overclocking migh help you squeeze a bit more performance from each miner…

It seems that upcpu’s dedicated GPU miner that supports only their own pool is the fastest in terms of performance, however the pool is is Chinese, but since it does not require registration you should be able to easily figure how to work with it. Our favourite English language pool, though with a little less performance is 1ghs’s PTS pool that is also very easy to use. Have in mind that these results are from a GeForce GTX 750 Ti GPU based on the new Maxwell architecture form Nvidia, so on other CUDA-capable video cards the performance you get from each miner may differ. That is why we have packed all of the miners that we have tested in a single archive that you can download and try for yourself to see where your hardware will perform the best. Soon we are also going to be checking out the performance with AMD and OpenCL miners for mining Protoshares.

Download cgminer 3.7.2 for Windows Scrypt mining on Gridseed 5-chip GC3355 ASICs

We now have a version of cgminer 3.7.2 available for mining Scrypt (LTC) only on the 5-chip Gridseed GC3355 ASIC devices with properly displayed local hashrate as well as HW error rate and the full cgminer 3.7.2 functionality (thanks to a user called dtbartle on GitHub). We have compiled a windows version of that miner that you can download and install it to finally have fully functional cgminer on your Gridseed Scrypt ASIC (source code available here). Have in mind that you need to install a WinUSB driver on top of the standard installed USB to COM driver for the miner in order for cgminer to detect and run on your ASIC in LTC only mode with low power consumption of about 8W.

– Download and run the latest version of Zadig
– From the Zadig interface select Options and choose List All Devices
– From the Dropdown list of devices select CP2102 USB to UART Bridge Controller and click on Replace Driver with the WinUSB driver selected
– If you have multiple 5-chip GC3355 DualMiner USB devices connected you may need to repeat the procedure for all of them
– Download, edit and run LTC_ONLY.bat file from the modified cgminer 3.7.2 for Gridseed ASICs to start mining for LTC

It seems that there are some ASIC devices that may be using different virtual USB to COM drivers other than the CP2102 that our unit has (for example ST32 Virtual COM Port), unfortunately we don’t have any of those to test with. You can however try to make things work by replacing the other driver with WinUSB, just select the right name from the dropdown box (do not try to rename drivers, it is pointless) and Replace it with WinUSB (you may need to unplug and plug the USB cable to the miner after that). If after installing the WinUSB driver over the virtual USB to COM driver the ASIC does not work with cgminer, you just need to uninstall the driver from the Device Manager and unplug/plug the USB cable to the device for it to install the original USB to COM driver and it should be functioning again with cpuminer (note that this way you may have it running on a new COM port).

Do note that if running single Gridseed ASIC device you can have it connected to the system and use the hotplug 0 option, if you have more than a single miner you may have to set commandline option hotplug to 5 or 10 and then run cgminer and start plugging the USB cables of the miners (USB hubs with power on/off buttons work great for that).
