A new version of the miniZ 1.5t Nvidia CUDA GPU miner for Equihash-based algorithms is available and it brings extra performance, improvements and better stability. The major performance improvements are for the Equihash 150,5 and 210,9 algorithms with up to 4% depending on algo and GPU used. Nvidia RTX 2070 gets up to 8% on Equihash 192,7 as well as 1660 Ti. There are also minor performance improvements in all other algorithms with up to 2% boost, depending on algo and GPU used. The new version also has better support for GTX 1660 Ti and GTX 1070, as well as some fixes such as lower CPU load when mining Beam on Windows and cleaner program exit/termination. The miniZ miner is still our preferred choice for ZEL mining, though here we are not seeing much of a performance gain over the previous version MiniZ 1.5s.

The MiniZ miner supports Equihash 144,5, Equihash 150,5, Equihash 150,5,3, as well as Equihash 192,7, Equihash 125,4, Equihash 210,9 and Equihash 96,5 and the various crypto currencies that use these algorithms on compatible Nvidia GPUs. There are CUDA 8.0 and CUDA 10.0 binaries available including support for Nvidia RTX GPUS with the CUDA 10 release (check which version works better on older GPUs, CUDA 10 is required fo RTX). Have in mind that since miniZ is a closed source miner there is also a built-in developer fee of 2% percent included.

The latest update of the AMD OpenCL GPU miner lolMiner 0.9.7 brings nice performance boost for the Cuckatoo 32 algorithm for GRIN s well as a GRIN Auto profit switching functionality on some pools (2Miners, BTC.com, F2Pool and Grinmint). Windows users can expect to get 15-18% performance boost for GRIN-C32 on AMD Navi cards and Linux users can expect to get 15-18% boost for GRIN-C32 performance on AMD Vega, VII and Navi cards. AMD Radeon RX 580 8GB GPUs are also supported forC32, however performance is nothing to brag about at just about 0.13 G/s on Windows currently. lolMiner was the first AMD GPU miner for 8GB cards with experimental support for C32 and each new version has been improving stability and performance.

Expected Performance for Grin C32:

- Card - Windows - Linux
- Radeon VII: 0.65 g/s - 0.77 g/s
- Vega 64: 0.42 g/s - 0.49 g/s
- Vega 56: 0.36 g/s - 0.42 g/s
- RX 5700: 0.4 g/s - 0.4 g/s

The primary Grin proof of work Cuckatoo 31+ is designed in a way that the original instance – Cuckatoo-31 – will fade out beginning mid January 2020, which means its difficulty will increase slowly over a period of 31 weeks until it gets impossible to mine a C31 block on the chain. But as by design also more difficult instances of Cuckatoo, namely Cuckatoo-32 … Cuckatoo-63 are implemented on the chain that also can make blocks. The difficulties of this higher instances will remain stable, such that at some point it will be more profitable to mine Cuckatoo-32 instead of Cuckatoo-31 (likely from mid of February).

We remind you that lolMiner is a closed source OpenCL GPU miner available for Windows and Linux as pre-compiled binaries only and that there is a 1% developer fee for using the software for all supported algorithms. The miner should work on Nvidia GPUs with OpenCL, however stability and performance could be far from optimal, so it is best for use with AMD GPUs.

It is time for the next GRIN hardfork that is scheduled to happen tomorrow, January 16th on block 524160. The fork includes an algorithm change of the Cuckarood29 to the new Cuckaroom29, the other algorithm that Grin uses C31 will not be affected by the fork. So if you want to continue mining Grin after the fork with C29 you will need to update your mining software with support for the new Cuckaroom29 algorithm.

AMD GPU miners might want to check out the latest lolMiner 0.9.5.1 that has introduced support for Cuckaroom29 on AMD GPUs with 8GB video memory. Nvidia GPU miners might want to check out the latest GMiner 1.93 that also brought support for Cuckaroom29, but the developer fee is 3% for that algorithm at the moment. The latest GMiner also brings support for Cuckarood29v algorithm (MoneroV), though the dev fee there is a hefty 10%.
