new-litecoin-difficulty-increase

The Litecoin Difficulty has increased after dropping significantly down to 2820 the previous time. The new Litecoin difficulty is 3508 and that is an increase with a bit over 24% than the previous one. The result is that LTC mining profitability got lower and at the moment alternative crypto mining such as DOGE coins for example is even more attractive than directly mining for LTC than before. Another interesting crypto coin that recently has generated a lot of attention is VertCoin (VTC) as it is an alternative crypto that does not use the typical Scrypt method, but a modified one and is claimed to be Scrypt ASIC resistant. Protoshares are also another interesting option for GPU mining as they are also gaining more user interest since the recent adoption of GPU mining as they were previously mined only with CPU. And for CPU only mining Primecoin (XPM) is still a good choice, though the profitability is not that attractive as the one of coins that can be mined with GPUs.

cgminer-3-7-3-modified

If you are mining Scrypt crypto currencies such as Litecoin or maybe DOGE, then you are most likely using cgminer as a mining software or something that relies on cgminer as a backend. The author of cgminer (Con Kolivas) however seems to have decided to continue support of cgminer only for ASIC mining for SHA-256 cryptos such as Bitcoin and version 3.7.2 is the last one for cgminer to support GPU mining for scrypt crypto coins. Furthermore the windows version of the last cgminer to support GPU mining has been removed from the official download location, you can however download cgminer 3.7.2 with GPU support for windows here.

More importantly, there are already some alternatives that are based around the original source code of cgminer 3.7.2, but add extra features and offer improvements that are not found in the original software. One such version based on cgminer 3.7.2 is Martin “Kalroth” Danielsen’s cgminer 3.7.2 that he calls cgminer 3.7.3 in order for the users to be able to differentiate between the original and his version. In cgminer 3.7.2 kalroth (cgminer 3.7.3) he has made changes to the visual interface to make it more user friendly and functionality that can help you squeeze a bit more performance out of your GPU mining hardware. Some of the notable differences include support for multiple pool load balancing, implementation for idle state for GPUs when there’s no work, two additional modes for controlling intensity – xintensity and rawintensity for additional performance, faster failover pool switching back delay and interface improvements such as uptime status or percentage of rejected shares and so on. Definitely something to try and see if you like this version of cgminer better than the original 3.7.2.

You can download cgminer 3.7.3 karloth with GPU mining support for Windows OS here…

butterbot-btce-day-6

The 6th day of our Butterbot automated Bitcoin trading bot testing has passed and it is time to see what has happened in the last 24 hours. On the BTC-e exchange we got a new trade, as a result we now have 24.77 USD balance so we are a bit short of the initial 25 USD that we started testing with. We’ve had a bit more in a previous trade, so we were actually making some profit, but at the moment we are at a short loss. Again not very active in trading, and this is what you should expect from this automated trading bot with the recommended or slightly optimized settings, though you might be able to make the bot trade faster with higher risk.

butterbot-mtgox-day-4

The fourth day of testing Butterbot on the MtGox exchange produced no trades at all and our balance is still 37.37 USD, but the general trend on the exchange was down, so maybe tomorrow we are going to see some trades. Don’t forget that the current market state and the trades at the exchange are very important to how an automated bot may react and execute trades or not. We have one more day left of our trial period for testing the Butterbot automated Bitcoin trading bot, before making the final conclusion if we are going to purchase and continue to use it or not. So far we are not too happy with the results we are getting and we are already looking for other alternatives to try out next, but let us finish with the Butterbot testing first.
