Bitmain has announced its next-generation 7nm miners – Antminer S15 and Antminer T15 and is already taking orders for the new devices with estimated shipping time for the second half of December. Both new Bitcoin ASIC miners have two different operating modes – a high-performance one for maximum hashrate and an energy saving mode that offers better energy efficiency with lower power usage and reduced hashrate. Antminer S15 is available for $1475 USD with a limit of 2 miner per user and Antminer T15 for $913 USD with a limit of 50 miners per user. The new miners do come with a built-in power supply included in the price, but be aware that apparently this PSU is only for 220V input power and also the output voltage is not the standard 12 used previously, so finding an alternative power supply may turn out to be a bit of a challenge.

The Antminer S15 high-performance mode can achieve a hash rate of 28 TH/s with a power efficiency as low as 57 J/TH (1596W); its energy-saving mode can improve power efficiency to 50 J/TH while maintaining a hash rate of 17 TH/s (850W). The Antminer T15 high-performance mode sees a hash rate of 23 TH/s and a power efficiency as low as 67 J/TH (1541W). Its energy-saving mode can improve power efficiency to 60 J/TH while maintaining a hash rate of 20 TH/s (1200W). The new Anminer ASIC miners come with a new high conversion power supply APW8 that has a non-standard 16-18V high-voltage output, so they can effectively reduce the power loss during the power conversion process, helping mining farms save on electricity costs, or so Bitmain claims as a reason to include the new power supply module as a part of the miner. The only problem is that the new power supplies are not designed to operate on 110V power grids and that can present a challenge for some regions that do operate on these.

While still in pre-order stage the first 7nm ASIC miner for Bitcoin (SHA256) – the 24 THS GMO B2 miner has been sold out. The Japanese company behind the project however is apparently ready with a successor – the GMO miner B3 that will be offering variable hashrate of 24-33 THS with 1950-3417 Watts of power usage respectively at the same price of 1999 USD. The new miners will come with 180 days of warranty and the price includes a 4 kW power supply as well. GMO is already taking pre-orders for the new B3 miners and you can pay using Bitcoin, Bitcoin Cash or USD with shipping expected to start in November 2018.

The new GMO B3 ASIc miners come with the same base specifications, but there is an extra that allows the device to either automatically adjust performance or the user to optimize it so that it can reach up to 33 THS hashrate with reduced power efficiency. This feature is interesting as it will allow miners to increase performance at times when there is higher profit to be made and to reduce it when the profit is not that good. The extra performance at the same price as that of the original B2 miners does seem like an interesting upgrade, especially considering that you get an adequate power supply also included in the price.

The Japanese company GMO Internet Group that has announced plans to get into crypto currency miners a couple of months ago is apparently getting ready to start producing the first 7nm Bitcoin ASIC mining chips (GMO 72b). The chips will be used in the upcoming GMO Miner B2 that the company promises to be able to deliver 24 THS hashrate with about 1950W of power usage and to cost $1999 USD when they start shipping it by the end of October this year. Hopefully this will push other ASIC manufacturers to work a bit more on power efficiency and performance of their BTC ASIC mining hardware in order to be able to remain competitive.
