CryptUnit, a Web-based Cryptonote Mining Profitability Calculator

CryptUnit is an interesting new service offering up to date data for Cryptonote-based altcoins that you can mine, giving you profitability information along with more details about each of the supported coins. You just need to enter your Cryptonight hashrate and the service will calculate what is the most profitable coin to mine at the moment and give you some extra useful information such as pools and exchanges if you are not familiar with the coin. Of course profitability varies all the time, so things change and the most profitable coins vary all the time. Currently the service covers 16 different Cryptonote coins that can be mined with CPU or GPU (both AMD and Nvidia). The people most interested in this service are probably going to be the ones with AMD-based video cards especially RX VEGA 56/64 due to their very high mining performance especially in the Cryptonight algorithm.

Major Bug in CryptoNote Base Crypto Currencies Disclosed

The developers of Monero (XMR) have just disclosed that they have discovered and patched a critical bug that affects all CryptoNote-based cryptocurrencies, and allows for the creation of an unlimited number of coins in a way that is undetectable to an observer unless they know about the fatal flaw and can search for it. This major bug has been patched a while ago and it has been confirmed that the Monero network was never affected by it. All other active and affected CryptoNote coins, including CryptoNote themselves, Bytecoin, Forknote, Boolberry, DashCoin, and DigitalNote have apparently been notified about the possible issue prior to the public disclosure of the problem.

Note that, at this time, only Monero (XMR), Aeon (AEON), Boolberry (XBB), and Forknote have updated. This means that there could be potential abuse, though it may not necessarily happen with coins that have not patched and fixed the bug. As a result caution is advised for anyone using, trading, exchanging, or running services involving the following currencies affected by this issue: Bytecoin (BCN), DashCoin (DSH), DigitalNote (XDN). Just to clarify a possible misunderstanding by some users – DashCoin (DSH) is not the same as DASH as DASH is not CryptoNote, but X11-based!

Claymore XMR/QCN/FCN/BCN GPU Miner for CryptoNight Coins

The Claymore GPU miner for CryptoNight crypto coins is designed to be used on AMD-based video cards, especially for the latest generations such as Radeon 280X and 7970. Do note that this miner is available only as a Windows binary and there is no source code that you can compile yourself, so you need to use the version compiled by the author of the miner software and it is only available for 64-bit Windows, no Linux support is available. Also note that the software has 5% developer fee built into the miner software, meaning that it will mine in a developer preset pool for 1 round out of 20. The software supports failover pools and you can also set the specific GPU id if you do not want to use all of the available video cards to mine with it. We have tested the latest version 3.4 of the miner on a Radeon R9 280X GPU and are getting about 390 H/s in terms of hashrate.
