The Loki Kit by Pivotal Pleb Tech has made it easier for crypto miners to get creative and run various configurations of Bitmain S19 ASIC miners on 120V power, meaning home mining for these devices was made possible in US and other countries using this voltage. There are number of products already available using Loki and single S19 mining boards to make a good space heater for the winter such as the BitChimney Space Heater and StealthMiner, but now there is a new interesting option available as well called The Urlacher. The device is named after LuxOS engineer David Urlacher who first built this configuration, and is a triple hashboard Loki Rig with fully functional Antminer S19k pro that runs on 120V power at lower hashrate. We are working on a review of the BitChimney Space Heater already as we have ordered a unit a while ago and it has arrived, so we are already playing around with it.

The Urlacher is interesting due to the fact that it runs a regular S19k Pro miner with all of its mining boards at lower operating frequency to achieve high hashrate and high efficiency for home mining and it comes as an easier modification that can be quickly applied. No need to disassemble the whole miner to take out hashing boards or to build custom cases and it is easier to return the miner back to its original form that will hash at full speed with the regular non-120V power supply. You can get the complete miner with the modification or just the modification kit to apply to your own miner if you have one, or you can build one yourself with just a Loki Kit, a Bitmain APW3++ PSU and some other accessories to connect and make everything work. The Urlacher does 56 TH/s at 1200 Watts of power usage with 53 dB noise level, though you can play with settings to achieve different results as long as you fit in the total power capabilities of the power supply.

With the colder weather incoming we are getting back on the topic of using crypto miners to heat our homes and take advantage of the excess heat that these devices produce while mining your favourite cryptocurrency. The Antminer S9 and or L3-based ASIC Space Heaters are still nice and all, especially if you already own some of those ASIC devices or want to get one pretty cheap, but things are moving further and we are starting to see designs based on newer ASIC hardware such as the BitChimney Space Heater that is based on a single Antminer S19 hashboard and capable of running on both 120V and 240V (US and Europe compatible). A silent and efficient device by Altair Tech that hashes nicely, stays silent and produces enough heat to also help you with heating at home… and it even looks quite nice with a cool 3D printed enclosure. Bit-Chimney Single Hashboard Space Heater is WiFi ready, runs on 110V-240V input Voltage, utilizes the Loki Kit by Pivotal Pleb Tech, runs at 23 TH/s at 750W or 30 TH/s at 1000W and at up to 60 Db noise level, so pretty silent. The first batch is expected to start shipping on October 30th priced at $699 USD. And if you are feeling more DIY-ish you might want to start tinkering around an S19 and make your own design as well.

The 3D printable case files for the BitChimney Space Heater by Altair Technology have been released online and you can download and print the case for the space heater yourself and build the miner if you do own a 3D printer and get the rest of the components you need such as the S19 miner hashboard, a suitable Bitmain power supply and a Loki board (if you need to run on 120V power in the USA or other country that uses the same lower voltage). Just go to Thingiverse to download the 3D STL files for the BitChimney Space Heater case and get on the route to building your own single board S19-based silent home Bitcoin miner.

Crypto Cloaks has just released the 3D printable STL files for their custom Bitmain AntMiner S9 modification from a noisy ASIC miner to a silent space heater that mines Bitcoin while keeping you warm during the cold winter days. They have already made available their DIY guide to help you build your own AntMiner S9 space heater even without the need of a custom case, but with the case that you can print yourself if you have access to a 3D printer – things not only work well, but also look well with your new space heater. The PDF includes their pretty detailed experience and tests during the creation process making it easier for anyone with a helpful walkthrough of the data collected and what you need and how to make your noisy S9 ASIC miner into a silent space heater that still manages to pay for the part of the electricity it uses thanks to the mined BTC.

Even if you do not own or have easy access to a 3D printer (like a friend that can print it for you) you can still order the case to be 3D printed and have an old Bitmain AntMiner S9 ASIC miner turned into a silent space heater mining BTC for less than $400 USD including buying a used S9 if you don’t have one lying around unused already. If you do have an S9 and a 3D printer that you can use to 3D print all the required parts, then the cost is significantly reduced, so you will need to buy just the extra fans and Ethernet to WiFi adapter. So, why not get to doing yourself a space heater that mines Bitcoin now instead of buying a pre-built one such as Heatbit that will cost you more than twice what you would normally spend if you buy everything and built it yourself.

And something from us to think about, you can swap the AntMiner S9 with an AntMiner L3 Scrypt ASIC and similarly have it optimized for silent operation, it will be easier since it can consume less power for optimal power efficiency with a custom firmware installed on it or you can up the heating power and get extra performance. The thing is that thanks to merged mining LTC and DOGE the L3+ ASIC miner might be able to pay for more of the electricity it uses compared to what an S9 could at the moment. Scrypt ASIC miners haven’t outperformed the L3+ and what it can do with custom firmware unlike SHA256 ASIC miners that have been faster in development and the S9, although from the same period is not as profitable nowadays. So, you might want to experiment with an AntMiner L3+ instead of an AntMiner S9 as a base ASIC miner for your new space heater, especially if you have one lying around and unused already…
