The latest release of the XMRig 5.10.0 comes with support for the AstroBWT algorithm on AMD GPUs, besides the already available CPU mining support, along with some optimizations for the algorithm used by DERO used by the DERO project since a fork switching the algorithm earlier this month. another important change in the miner is that the cn/gpu algorithm is now disabled by default and will be removed in next major release (v6.x.x), as well as a major TLS (Transport Layer Security) subsystem update. As far as AMD GPU performance on the AstroBWT algorithm compared to CPU mining, an AMD Radeon RX 580 8GB does seem to produce a hashrate slower than that of a mid-range CPU. A higher-end processor such as AMD Ryzen 3900X could be as much as 4 times faster than a RX 580 GPU, so AMD GPU mining may not be that attractive for AstroBWT.

The latest release of the XMRig 5.9.0 comes with support for a new RandomKEVA algorithm to be used by and upcoming Kevacoin (KEVA) fork as the relatively new crypto project currently uses CryptoNoght R as proof of work algorithm. The new version of XMRig also continues fixing various issues as well as improvements such as better AstroBWT support that was recently also announced in the mining software.

The DERO project is another crypto that last year had announced their plans to switch the mining algorithm to a RandomX variant and they are finally doing it. Tomorrow, March 7th at block 4550555, marks the time that DERO will be switching to the new CPU mining POW called AstroBWT. So if you are into CPU mining you might want to give it a try after the fork and see what DERO will do with the new algorithm. The project itself has been available for quite some time and has been in constant development, relying on the CryptoNight algorithm prior the upcoming fork to their new AstroBWT algorithm

AstroBWT is a CPU mining only algorithm and apart from the official miner for the algorithm, there is also the latest XMRig 5.8.x major release that added support for the algorithm a few days ago and the minor releases since then have improved it by fixing issues and significantly increasing mining performance. So make sure you try XMRig on your CPU mining hardware it time for the fork in order to be ready when the hardfork happens, that is if you do plan to try mining DERO with the new AstroBWT algorithm.
