The cpuminer-opt miner (source) is a fork from cpuminer-multi by tpruvot that adds optimizations for many algorithms for more recent CPUs with support for the AES-NI instruction set, though the miner also works on older SSE2 capable CPUs with lower performance. Up until recently the cpuminer-opt was available only for Linux users, but starting from version 3.3 there is also Windows support and we have compiled 64-bit binaries of the miner for Windows. In the archive below you can find multiple executable files that are compiled for different CPU architectures that support AES-NI instructions, so you are welcome to try them. The default cpuminer.exe is compiled for Intel Westmere, the first architecture that has support for the AES-NI instruction set and cpuminer-amd.exe is bdver1 which should work on all AMD processors with AES-NI. If you have a more recent Intel Sandybridge, Ivybridge, Haswell or Broadwell-based processor you can try the respective binary to see if that will squeeze some extra performance, or you can compile directly on your PC with the native instruction set supported by your CPU. We have not tried much of the algorithms of the miner yet, but we have checked HODL support – one of the more recent interesting CPU-only coins and it seems to be working well, though on some systems it occasionally gives low difficulty shares.
Update: We have updated the binaries to the latest version cpuminer-opt 3.3.4 that has support for the X11Evo algorithm used by Revolvercoin (XRE). The latest version should also fix the low difficulty shares for HODL that were present in the earlier releases and improve compatibility for some CPUs, including resolving issues that some people had with Intel Westmere-based processors. There is also a significant improvement for the performance of the M7M used by the Coin Magi (XMG) over the older versions of cpuminer-opt. We have also added cpuminer-sse2.exe binary for processors that do not have AES-NI support, so you might want to try that one if you have an older processor. We have compiled a new range of windows binaries of the hodlminer fork optimized by Wolf0 (source) with support for Intel AES New Instruction set (AES-NI). This is the faster CPU miner for mining HOdlcoin (HODL) than the standard release for processors without AES-NI support. Do note that the binaries below are available only for 64-bit Windows and will work only on compatible AMD or Intel processors with AES instruction support, for other processors you should stick with the standard hodlminer that is slower, but should work on much wider range of CPUs.
If you are not sure if your CPU does have support for AES-NI and what it the architecture it is based on you can easily check with the help of the free tool CPU-Z. Intel’s CPUs with AES-NI support start from the first models based on the Westmere microarchitecture that was introduced in early 2010 while AMD’s processors that do come with AES support start with the AMD Bulldozer Family 15h introduced in late 2011. This means that if you have a CPU later than that it will most likely have support AES-NI, though there is a catch, not all lower-end CPUs come with Advanced Encryption Standard Instruction Set supported. Intel has a list of all CPU’s that have support for AES-NI available here, so you can also use that to see if your CPU is in the list.
In the archive below with the different binaries there are number of executable files that have the type of michroarchitecture they are compiled for, so you just need to rename them to hodlminer.exe and try to run them depending on the type of CPU you have. The binaries with bdver1, bdver2 and bdver3 are for AMD CPUs with Bulldozer or later michroarchitecture while the others are for Intel starting with Westmere, then Sandy Bridge and Ivy Bridge and then Haswell and Broadwell. The Silvermont michroarchitecture is for specific set of low-power Atom, Celeron and Pentium branded processors used in systems on a chip (SoCs) made by Intel that aslo have support for AES-NI. If these binaries do no work on your processor, the standard hodlminer release should still be able to provide you with the ability to mine HOdlcoin (HODL).

There is now a mining calculator available for HOdlcoin (HODL) our current favorite for a CPU-only mineable crypto coin. The calculator makes it easy to get a good idea on how much you might be able to earn using your CPU for mining the coin. The calculator gives you only information about what you can mine, but your profit can increase significantly thanks to the interest you get and if you deposit the coins for a term, taking advantage of the still quite high interest rate. Another interesting new feature with HODL is the recent introduction of a custom HOdlcoin block explorer that gives interesting and useful information on how things are moving with the coin and its network, so do check that out as well.
