The fork of ethminer for Nvidia CUDA GPUs has been updated to a new version – Ethminer 0.9.41-genoil-1.0.5 (source). The latest release of Genoil’s ethminer for CUDA should bring back support for older Compute 3.0 GPUs, so if you have one of these you should check to see if it will work as it should now (if you had issues with the previous 0.9.41-genoil-1.0.4b3 release). It also has some cleaned up code, but you should not expect to see a performance boost with it. Do note that when running with CUDA it will run only on the first GPU, so you need to manually set the option --cuda-devices 0 1 2 3 4 5
to have for example the miner run on a 6-card GPU mining rig. The fork from Genoil, although targeted at Nvidia CUDA miners, will also work on AMD OpenCL GPUs, but there it should not be any different than from the default ethminer that is OpenCL only.

The work on the official Ethereum graphical wallet (GUI wallet) is continuing and the software is getting improved and becoming more user friendly with each new beta release, making it easier for new people to get started with ETH. The wallet relies on geth (by default) or the eth client as a backend and provides a user friendly interface with the most important information and functions available to the user without requiring him to type console commands to execute them. The latest version Ethereum Wallet 0.5.1 (Beta 9) is ready for the upcoming Ethereum hardfork as the crypto currency moves to the next phase of its development called Homestead that is planned to happen at block 1150000 or in other words in less than 50 thousand blocks.
The Ethereum GUI wallet can be used as a new installation to get you started with a new wallet, it will start with an easy step by step guide to help you get started by generating a new wallet and even import pre-sale wallet if you have participated in the pre-sale and still have not imported your coins. If you already have a local wallet and were using the geth or eth console clients, then you can use the GUI wallet with your existing address and the blockchain data will not need to be re-downloaded as you already have it available locally and the GUI wallet will use it. It took some time for the official Ethereum GUI wallet to become available and to offer the functionality users needed in an easy graphical user interface, but you can say that now, even thought still in beta, the GUI wallet works very well and makes it really easy for new users to get into Ethereum.

The cloud mining service provider Hashflare has officially announced their plans to start offering Ethereum cloud mining hashrate with pre-orders already active and mining expected to start on March 21st. The contracts are with 1 year term with everything included in the price of the hashrate, so no extra expenses for the user. The price is set at $4.25 USD per 100 KHS (0.1 MHS) or with other words $42.25 USD per Megahash worth of Ethereum mining hashrate. There is currently a promotional offer for pre-orders that will allow you to purchase hashrate at a discounted price of $3.74 USD per 100 KHS or $37.4 USD per MHS (12% discount for the pre-orders) if you use the following promotional code when checking out HF16ETHER12.
The service is already offering Bitcoin and Litecoin cloud mining hashrate contracts, though both are being paid to users in BTC. Their new Ethereum cloud mining offer is apparently based on what Genesis Mining is already offering, though Hashflare apparently wants to attract customers with a lower price. The problem is that they have announced their plans about 1 month prior to actually starting to mine Ethereum and for that 1 month a lot can change – much higher mining difficulty or significant drop in price etc. that makes this investment riskier. There is also no information what will happen with the purchased hashrate in case Ethereum switches to PoS before the end of the 1 year term of the contract. So be careful when weighting in the pros and cons of this offer.
