550 MHS BW-L21 Litecoin (Scrypt) ASIC Miner

The recent return of interest in Litecoin (LTC) and the growing price has apparently also sparked interest for more up to date ASIC miners and there is one more contender now available apparently. Here comes the BW-L21 Litecoin (Scrypt) ASIC Miner from BW.com promising to deliver up to 550 MHs with 950W of power usage. The ordering process for these devices however is not that easy apparently, there is a minimum order quantity of 100 units and the price is about 2500 USD. You need to contact BW by email in order to arange an order and make the purchase, though with 100 units MOQ this is hardly interesting for small home miners. Bitmain’s AntMiner L3+ Scrypt ASIC miner is still much more attractive to small miners that want to get just one or a couple of units, that is if you manage to buy one when new batches are being released.

Initially when the Titan Scrypt ASIC has been a announced earlier this month by KnCMiner they have said it would be 100 MHS in terms of hashrate as a guaranteed minimum, but now the company has just announced that they will guarantee a minimum of 250 MHS. The price of the device remains the same – $9995 USD without VAT and the shipping date remains Q2/Q3 with Q3 being more realistic. The company also offers the people that have preordered their upcoming Neptune SHA-256 ASIC to switch to the Titan Scrypt ASIC if they want to.
This new announcement definitely will make a serious difference when the company starts shipping the Titan Scrypt ASIC and it will end the era of GPU mining for Scrypt-based crypto currencies. The 250 MHS Titan Scrypt miner will be able to run on an 800-1000 watt power supply according to KnC, so you can safely say that Litecoin and other Scrypt crypto currencies are now really starting to go on the same road as BTC did a while ago. In ust a few months there will be no point in mining Scrypt cryptos with GPU, but GPU miners will not just stop mining or disappear, they will just move to coins using other different crypto algorithms that will be ASIC proof for now just like LTC was.
Meanwhile the only company that currently ships ASIC devices capable of mining Scrypt cryto currencies is Gridseed and their products are selling a lot. But even these devices may not be so attractive in the second half of the year when we start seeing hundreds of MHS worth of Scryt ASICs getting added to the network hashrate. The good news is that if you get these ASIC devices now you have a very good chance to not only get your investment back, but also to make some good profit.
There is a new fork of cgminer for the Gridseed 5-chip GC3355 ASIC devices that we have compiled for windows (source) that you can download below, it is based on the previous version by dbartle, but adds some useful extra functions for people with multiple ASICs. You get to set the operating frequencies of the ASIC at a smaller steps from 700 to 1088 MHz, below is the full list of supported frequencies:
700, 706, 713, 719, 725, 731, 738, 744, 750, 756, 763, 769, 775, 781, 788, 794, 800, 813, 825, 838, 850, 863, 875, 888, 900, 913, 925, 938, 950, 963, 975, 988, 1000, 1013, 1025, 1038, 1050, 1063, 1075, 1088.
Also you are able to set different operating frequency for each device by giving the devices’ serial number and operating frequency, below is an example:
--gridseed-freq 6D9426984857=988,6D9656774857=975,6D8956965251=975
This can help you maximize the hashrate that you get from all of the devices you have, though it will need some time to figure out what is the best frequency for each of your ASICs. You can normally see the serial number of a device after the GSD X, this also works with both the newer and older revisions, the only difference is the serial number you will see (0001 for the older vs something like 6D8956965251 for the newer devices). Note that you should be able to set a general frequency and only change some of the miners operating frequency with their serials.
