The latest update to the Bminer Equihash Nvidia miner brings a number of useful improvements for users that are mining ZCash (ZEC) or other Equihash-based crypto coins on Nvidia GPUs. The newest version 6.0.0 of the miner brings slight performance improvement in the hashrate, faster startup time and reduced CPU usage, comes with a failover server support, provides reduced reject rate caused by stale shares and a simple GUI launcher for Windows to make it even easier for novice users to set thing up. There are of course a number of other smaller improvements and fixes also available in this update to help you get better results and give you more flexibility.

For those of you that have not yet tried this Equihash miner, do note that it also has a simple web-based status interface that shows useful information like uptime, speed, power consumption and efficiency as well as some graphs for temperature and hashrate variation. So all in all a very nice list of improvements in the latest version of Bminer that makes it an even better alternative to more popular and widely used alternatives such as EWBF’s miner or dstm’s ZCash CUDA Miner. If you have not tried this miner the last time we talked about it when it was still new and getting up to speed, now might be a good time to give it a go.

There are just a few days left until the fork of Monero (XMR) to CryptoNightV7 to make it again ASIC resistant and you might want to be ready for mining it after the fork, especialyl if you have ADM RX VEGA GPUs. So far the latest Claymore’s CryptoNote AMD GPU Miner does not yet have support for CryptoNightV7, but for VEGA GPUs you probably are using XMR-stak (also not ready) or Cast-XMR or the more recently announced Xrig. The last two have already been updated and their latest versions do come with support for CryptoNightV7, so you should update to Xrig 0.8.1 and Cast XMR 0.9.1 in order to be sure you are ready for the fork. Although these miners are optimized especially for VEGA mining, they should work on other AMD RX series of GPUs like 470/480 and 570/580 for example, so until a Claymore adds CryptoNightV7 support you can try using these miners as well. After Monero forks to the new CryptoNightV7 POW other coins are also expected to do the same and remain to be ASIC proof. The upcoming Monero (XMR) fork to CryptoNight v7 is scheduled for block 1546000 which should happen some time around 2018-04-06 (April 4th), so less than 2 weeks left until the fork.

There is now a fork of sgminer also available for mining the X16r algorithm used by Raven (RVN), so the coin is no longer in the domain of Nvidia miners alone. The sgminer-gm fork with X16R support by aceneun should work on most recent AMD GPUs such as RX 4xx/5xx series and RX VEGA just fine, we have not tested it on older generations, but it might be just fine for them as well. Do note that there is a Windows binary available and it requires you to have the 32-bit (x86) version of Visual C++ Redistributable for Visual Studio 2015 installed in order to run it.

The performance you could expect from the sgminer-gm-x16r is about 5-6 MHS on AMD Radeon RX 470/480 or RX 570/580 series of GPUs, though the results can vary based on different clock settings. On an AMD Radeon RX VEGA 56/64 GPU you should be able to get about 10-12 MHS, though again results can vary depending on configuration and clocks. Performance wise it is not bad compared to what users are getting on their Nvidia GPUs, though the latest ccMiner Enemy 1.03 fork for Raven (RVN) does provide higher hashrate on Nvidia GPUs.

Regardless if you are using AMD or Nvidia GPUs, mining Raven (RVN) might not be a bad idea at the moment as there is a lot of user interest and hype surrounding the coin and difficulty is growing. We are yet to see however how will things develop in the near and the not so near future with this coin as it may all end up with too much hype, but then again this could also end up being a gem for the earlier adopters as well. The difficulty of the coin has been steadily growing in the last few days and now with an AMD GPU miner available as well it will most likely continue to grow higher.
