The RavenCoin (RVN) fork has been successfully executed and mining with GPUs is back once more with mining profitability of RVN the highest at the moment among GPU-mineable altcoins thanks to no significant change in the price. The hashrate is now about 5 times lower than before the fork, so most likely the presence of FPGAs and even maybe ASIC miners for the X16R algorithm is really significant. Anyway, apart from z-enemy and T-Rex miners for Nvidia there is a third option available now with X16Rv2 support. The new entry is the just released CryptoDredge v0.22.0 that now supports the X16Rv2 algorithm, like with other closed source Nvidia GPU miners, CryptoDredge also comes with a 1% dev fee for the X16RV2 algorithm. Our quick tests have shown that on GTX 1080 Ti the performance of CryptoDredge miner with X16Rv2 is not as high as on the current hashrate leader T-Rex… it is more like similar to that of z-enemy.

The latest T-Rex Nvidia GPU miner version 0.14.4 has also introduced support for the new X16Rv2 algorithm, just like the z-enemy 2.2 miner did (the algo that Ravencoin is forking to starting next month). Although the z-enemy miner was technically first with an official release, there was unofficial beta of t-rex 0.14.2 made available by the PEXA project a few days earlier with X16Rv2 support. Do note that you can already test X16Rv2 mining with PEXA Coin on mainnet and not only on pools that have implemented RVN testnet mining with the new X16Rv2 algorightm.

Performance wise it does seem that the T-Rex 0.14.4 miner offers similar or slightly faster hashrate compared to Z-Enemy 2.2 in most algorithm combinations on GTX 1080 Ti after a quick test, though it is best that you compare on your own mining hardware. Also T-Rex has implemented a new command line parameter that enables the miner to automatically switch to a new algorithm at user set fork time (example for RVN: --fork-at x16rv2=2019-10-01T16:00:00). Do note that the T-Rex is a closed source miner software with 1% development fee built-in. Also make sure you have a recent video driver installed (the latest for CUDA 10+ support) as the binaries for both Linux and Windows are available in versions compiled for CUDA 9.1/9.2/10.0.

With the Ravencoin (RVN) fork to X16Rv2 right around the corner already we are starting to see updates to popular mining software adding support for the new algorithm the coin will be switching to. It has been a while since we have seen an update for the z-enemy miner (one of the most popular choices for X16R mining on Nvidia GPUs in the past), but here it is with the latest version 2.2 adding support for the X16Rv2 algorithm. The latest version also adds support for secure stratum+ssl connections and comes with some fixes as well regarding a GPU data error in JSON API and a PHI2 bug on CUDA 10.1.

The latest z-enemy version 2.2 is available for Nvidia CUDA 9.1, 9.2, 10.0 and 10.1 for 64-bit Windows versions as well as CUDA 9.1, CUDA 9.2 and CUDA 10 binaries for Linux (HiveOS, PiMP OS, EthOS & Ubuntu). Make sure that you have the respective recent video driver version installed for the CUDA version you want to use – 388+ for 9.1, 397+ for 9.2 and 411+ for CUDA 10.0 or the latest ones for CUDA 10.1. We remind you that the z-enemy is a closed source miner software, is available only as a binary release and that it contains a 1% developer fee built-in to support further software development.
