Have Some Spare CPU Power, Mine HOdlcoin With It

There are not that many CPU-only mineable coins out there and our current preferred choice for dedicating some spare CPU mining power is for HOdlcoin (HODL). The coin started with solo mining only from the wallet, but has since introduced pools and separate miners, so now it it easier to get started and there is development going on on new features. The interesting part about HODL is that you get interest rate on coins that are inside your wallet and there is also an option for making deposits for even higher returns, but unlike with PoS you do not actually need to keep the wallet running to get your bonus interest. The regular interest accumulates for each block with the coins available to be spent at any moment while the deposits lock your coins for a chosen period of time, but offer significantly higher interest when compared to the regular rate of about 5% APR. I’m mining this con with an FX-8150, getting about 120 h\s with 7 out of the 8 cores. The interest is pretty nice alzó.

Getting 285 h\s with an OC’d i7-5820k (12/12 cores) with enough performance left to use as daily computer. Are you HOdl’in?!

Hi, I downloaded the windows wallet and miner and started mining on POOL-Start, do I have to change the bat file in order to receive the coins in my wallet? And where can I find my address? Thanks

Lorey, you need to register at a pool, you will also need a HODL wallet where the pool will be sending your mined coins. Make sure you set the correct worker and password in the miner for the pool you are using, then set the wallet address in the pool settings…

For those who had trouble running W0lf’s Windows binary (like me), here is instruction to compile hodlminer in Cywin:
1. Download and install Cygwin 64 bit setup from http://www.cygwin.com/. Here
is a direct link to the latest version: http://cygwin.com/setup-x86_64.exe
2. Run the setup as administrator. Use defaults until you get to the package
selection screen. Find these packages one by one and click next to them where
it says ‘skip’ to mark them for installation (skip should change to a version number):
devel/gcc-g++
devel/ming64-x86_64-pthread
devel/openssl-devel
libs/libcurl-devel
devel/automake
devel/make
archive/unzip
web/wget
devel/git
3. Hit next, then next again to mark all dependencies and begin downloading /
installing packages.
4. Wait a few minutes for everything to finish downloading/installing.
5. Hit finish.
6. Open a cygwin terminal as administrator either by going to Start menu -> Cygwin
-> Cygwin 64 terminal, or runing C:\Cygwin64\cygwin.bat. All future commands are
done from this terminal.
7. Download hodlminer-wolf source from their github using the following command:
git clone https://github.com/wolf9466/hodlminer-wolf.git
8. Change dirs:
cd hodlminer-wolf
9. Mark autogen.sh as executable:
chmod +x autogen.sh
10. Run autogen.sh
./autogen.sh
11. Run the configure script, optimizing it for speed:
CFLAGS=”-O3 -march=native” ./configure
12. Compile it:
make

Do note that Wolf’s miner requires a CPU with AES NI instruction support or with other words a more recent high-end processor.
For processors without Intel AES New Instructions support use the regular miner, you can check for AES NI support here: http://ark.intel.com/

How can I set the solo mine wallet to only use 4 cores out of the 8? The miner always causes my computer to freeze and I have to force shutdown and start it back up.

You can set the number of threads to use with the
-t Xcommand line parameter where X is the number of threads such as 4.Bracol Harry

I’m new to mining and bitcoin. I opened my wallet in windows and found the bottom right hand side with the mining icon has a lock next to it. What lock is this?
