The Gulden (NLG) crypto project, an older one available for a few years already originally based on Scrypt Proof of Work algorithm, has switched the mining algorithm. Their new PoW algorithm targeted at CPU mining is called SIGMA and is designed to be ASIC/GPU resistant. The goal of the algorithm switch is to also attract new miners and users for the project as there hasn’t been much development for Scrypt mining for quite some time and mining hasn’t been largely become unattractive for a lot of users not having ASICs and cheap electricity.

SIGMA or Semi Iterated Global Memory Argon is a new and unique algorithm developed for NLG. The algorithm is designed to require more memory, making it impractical for implementation by ASICs rising the price, but not entirely impossible. It is also complicated to make fast hashing parallel on GPUs to achieve much faster performance than on CPU, so CPU mining for now is the only option for mining Gulden coins. It seems that CPU mining is getting a lot more attention lately with RandomX as well and other algorithms like SIGMA.

Moving back to CPU mining means that everyone with a low, or mid to high-end CPU will be able to mine new NLG coins, for the moment there is no pool mining for SIGMA and NLG. Mining is SOLO and done through the official local wallet, so for mining you need to download the latest version and you need to update it anyway if you had some Gulden coins stored in a wallet prior the fork. So make sure you update to the latest available version as there have been some fixes in the last few days after the fork happened on October 16th that fix issues. If you need a good crypto exchange where to trade NLG coins you can head on to Bittrex.

Pigeoncoin (PGN) is one of the first forks of Raven, but instead of using directly X16R it introduced a modified version called X16S. Well, it seems that PGN is changing their PoW mining algorithm form X16S to X21S, another algorithm that has been available for a while introduced by Ritocoin (RITO) which is another fork from Ravencoin (RVN). The switch from X16S to X21S will occur on the 15th of October 2019 at 00:00:00 GMT. We could not find a specific reason for the algorithm change, we would understand if it was using X16R and wanted to get away from the existing ASIC miners, but with X16S. Still, if you are holding PGN in a local wallet make sure you update to the latest wallet version to be ready for the upcoming fork. If you are mining/trading PGN you might want to make sure your pool is ready for the fork and that you not make transactions near the fork time just to be sure that everything goes smoothly first. As for mining – T-Rex and CryptoDredge for Nvidia and WildRig Multi for AMD should be fine, or at least that was what we sued the last time we have mined using the X21S algorithm. For a crypto exchange with support for PGN you can head on to Citex.

Here you can download latest Pigeoncoin (PGN) wallets to be ready for the fork…

ArQmA (ARQ) is another crypto project that has revealed plans to fork to a new RandomX-based algorithm called RandomARQ. This project has been started in 2018, but is still wit pretty low market capitalization and low trading volume according to data from CoinMarketCap, so there is much room for growth. The ArQmA (ARQ) fork to the new RandomARQ algorithm is currently planned for 8th of November at 23:50:00 at block 303666, though this might not be the final date. The latest XMRig v4.3.0-beta had just added support for the new RandomARQ algorithm with “rx/arq”, so you should be good to go by the time the fork happens should you decide to check out the project. Currently ArQmA (ARQ) uses the CryptoNight Turtle algorithm, so it is still mineable with GPUs. Since RandomARQ is based off RandomX it will be CPU friendly algorithm, so mining after the fork will be done mostly with CPUs due to the fact that the algorithm has been designed to be processor friendly and not GPU, ASIC or FPGA friendly. Some good crypto exchanges to trade ArQmA (ARQ) coins include Citex and Crex.
