There is a new more powerful ASIC miner from Baikal Miner that supports multiple algorithms for mining, the new Baikal Miner BK-G28 is a more powerful successor of the previous BK-X model that the company was selling up until recently. The new BK-G28 is almost 3 times faster in terms of performance on all supported algorithms and adds Groestl support on top of the already supported other algos. With the Baikal Miner BK-G28 you can get up to 28 GHS mining performance on X11, Quark, Qubit, Myriad-Groestl, Nist5 and Groestl with varying power consumption. The hashrate for Skein is at 14 GHS and for mining X11Ghost you can expect to get about 3.5 GHS. Baikal Miner is already taking orders for the new hardware, though they do not cite official price for the device yet.

Currently it is most interesting and profitable choice for the new BK-G28 is to be used for the Groestl algorithm, however a big number of these ASIC mines will easily reduce profitability in not time. Mining Groestl in GPUs is obviously getting depreciated, as most likely Baikal Miner will soon add support for Groestl for the owners of BK-X ASICs as well… most likely as son as they sell enough BK-G28s.

While we are still waiting Bitmain to release AsicBoost support for all of its Antminer S9 variations, Braiins OS Wolfram was made available from the Braiins team. This new release of the Braiins opensource OS for Bitcoin ASIC miners comes with support for all Antminer S9 variants and adds support for AsicBoost as well, it also works on DragonMint T1 (only the variant with Xilinx based control boards). Aside from AsicBoost support on S9 mining hardware, by using the Braiins OS Wolfram you also get the ability to change the clock frequency and voltage for the miners on per hashboard basis, so more tweaking options.

Braiins OS uses over (version-rolling) AsicBoost in accordance with BIP310. For Antminer S9, this is currently done using the bitstream provided by the manufacturer, but the goal is to switch to a custom open-source bitstream as soon as possible. All Antminer S9 models (S9, S9i, S9j) are supported, however, the amount of possible variations is rather high, so for this reason it is recommend to test an SD card image first on a single device and once you are confident that the firmware operates according to your expectations, you can apply factory transitional firmware images. Then you can start tweaking the voltage and frequency settings to utilize the extra power savings that you should get of about %13 thanks o the use of AsicBoost.

Really interesting news for everyone that owns Antminer S9 ASIC miners and other Bitmain BM1387-based models like the Antminer R4, S9i, S9j, T9 and T9+. Bitmain has officially released a firmware to activate the so called “Overt AsicBoost” for Antminer S9 Bitcoin ASIC miners and will have the firmware for Antminer R4, S9i, S9j, T9 and T9+ within a week as well. This comes just a few days after the announcement that Braiins OS might actually bring users support for Overt AsicBoost. According to Braiins the activation of the “Overt AsicBoost” functionality on S9 can bring down the power consumption by about 13% which is more than welcome at the current market situation for any miner using Antminer S9 Bitcoin ASICs. Bitmain however does not officially reveal how the new firmware with “Overt AsicBoost” affects the operating parameters of the S9, though the upgrade should reduce the power consumption for sure.
