This is an interesting project that is still largely flying under the radar, even though it was started back in 2018. With a sub $300 USD market cap and surprisingly low trading volume due to limited exchanges trading the coin it is not surprise it is not getting the needed attention it deserves. Ryo Currency (RYO) is another interesting attempt at a privacy oriented crypto currency with the project led by fireice_uk and psychocrypt, who are the developers of the xmr-stak mining software and the Cryptonight-Heavy algorithm, although the project currently relies on the first in industry floating point (FP32 math ops) mining algo Cryptonight-GPU. The main idea of the Cryptonight-GPU (CN-GPU) algorithm is to ensure fair GPU mining to all participants in the mining process, regardless if they use AMD or Nvidia GPUs.

Originally most CryptoNight-based algorithms are favoring AMD GPUs and manage to perform better on lower-end AMD GPUs than on higher-end Nvidia GPUs thus not crating the equality needed for fair mining. The Cryptonight-GPU algorithm however manages to offer pretty good equality for both AMD and Nvidia lineups of GPUs, scaling performance from low-end to high-end GPUs regardless if they are AMD or Nvidia ones. This means that if you have a AMD Radeon RX 580 it will not be twice as fast as an Nvidia GTX 1080 Ti as in some CN-based algorithms, instead the Nvidia GPU will be more than twice faster as it is a higher-end product than the specific AMD card. This means that you might actually be interested in mining RYO not only with AMD GPUs, but with Nvidia as well and the higher-end the GPU is, the better performance you will be getting. The crypto exchanges that support RYO currently are Trade Ogre and Crex.

It is interesting to note that RYO’s block reward changes every 6-months according to a specific scheme and it is still growing, expecting to reach its peak near the end of this year (mid-November) and then it will start dropping down steadily. The current block reward for RYO is 56.28 coins per block and it will max out at 65.07 RYO for two 6-month cycles before starting to go down again every 6 months. RYO and Cryptonight-GPU can be mined with XMR-Stak, XMRig and SRBMiner – the most popular AMD CryptoNight miners as well as with CryptoDredge for Nvidia GPUs for best performance. There are number of mining pools available with MinerRocks being the largest one at the moment in terms of hashrate.

If you might be interested in MicroBitcoin’s (MBC) Rainforestv2 mining on Nvidia GPUs you might want to check out the latest optimized spmod ccminer fork that offers significantly faster performance than the publicly available official version from djm34 (rfv2 ccminer). A quick test shows that SP’s optimized miner (closed source binary available for Windows only) is about 4 times faster than the public open source version from djm34 on a GTX 1080 Ti GPU, so significant boost in performance is to be expected on other Nvidia GPUs as well.

The only drawback with MBC is that it is currently listed on just 2 small exchanges with very little volume, although with a hashrate a few times faster than before there could be some profit to be made at least initially, so you might want to check it out. It has a huge market capitalization as the project is not so new, but the trading volume is pretty low at the moment. The cmminer SPMOD for rfv2 is compiled with CUDA 9.2 and is a 64-bit only binary for Windows, so make sure you meet the requirements to run the miner software.

Update: And very soon after the release of the miner MicroBitcoin (MBC) has successfully forked to a new algorithm – yespower2b… a CPU friendly one and not GPU mining oriented apparently, so the optimized miner was usable for just a couple of hours before the fork. MBC apparently needs to keep all their information channels more up to date about tings such as upcoming hard forks!

Bitmain has just announced two new Bitcoin ASIC miners with improved power efficiency and hashrate – Antminer S17+ and T17+ at the World Digital Mining Summit (WDMS) in Frankfurt today. The Antminer S17+ has a hash rate of 73 TH/s and operates with a power efficiency of 40 J/TH + 10%, while the T17+ offers a hash rate of 64 TH/s and a power efficiency of 50 J/TH + 10%. The Antminer S17+ and T17+ will be available for sale on Bitmain’s official website according to the following timing: pre-sales starting on 11 October 2019, 19:00 GMT+8 and deliveries starting sometime in the 01- 10 December 2019 timeframe. Pricing has not yet been revealed as well as detailed specifications, but they should become clear when the devices are listed for sale in 2 days time. The currently available Bitmain Antminer S17 is 53 TH/s hashrate with 45 J/TH efficiency (2385W) priced at $2322 USD for the next batch and the Bitmain Antminer T17 is 40 TH/s hashrate with 55 J/TH efficiency (2090W) priced at $951 USD for the next batch.

By using dual tube heat dissipation technology, the miners have been designed so that the space between the air inlet to the air outlet has been reduced by 50%, improving heat dissipation effectively as well as reducing fan noise. Besides, a high temperature and fan abnormal protection mechanism has been built in to ensure the stable and safe operation of the miners. Both Antminer S17+ and T17+ use the industry leading Exposed Die package solution and an optimized all-in-one design, making the models easily to be implemented and can adapt to mining farms of different sizes.
