The development of some of the ccMiner forks for Nvidia GPU miners didn’t seem very active visually in the last couple of months, especially with coins such as ZCash (ZEC) that came with their own miner releases, but it hasn’t been stopped. A few days ago tpruvot has made a pre-release version of his new ccMiner 2.0 available (source) for people interested in checking it out with probably a few small things left to be ironed out before the final 2.0 release is made available. So if you are using Nvidia GPUs to mine crypto coins then you might want to give it a try and don’t forget to send a tip to your local friendly ccMiner developer for a beer or two to show your support.

ccMiner 2.0 RC2 changelog:
– Handle cryptonight, wildkeccak and cryptonight-lite
– Add a series of new algorithms: timetravel, bastion, hmq1725, sha256t
– Import lyra2z from djm34 work…
– Rework the common skein512 (used in most algos except skein ;)
– Upgrade whirlpool algo with alexis version (2x faster)
– Store the share diff of second nonce(s) in most algos
– Hardware monitoring thread to get more accurate power readings
– Small changes for the quiet mode & max-log-rate to reduce logs noise
– Blake2s fix, variant built with CUDA 6.5 (not usable for lbry)

Do note that this release may not contain the best optimizations and fastest performance on all of the supported algorithms, so depending on what you are currently mining you may need to stick to another faster fork of ccMiner or not. Also the CUDA 6.5 binary release does not work for LBRY mining as noted in the changelog, so either use the 8.0 release or compile with 7.5 for mining that coin.

Claymore has released yet another update for his ZCash AMD GPU Miner that brings some more extra performance boost for mining Cash (ZEC), however the latest v12.0 of the miner does come some new specifics. The latest version v12.0 comes with improved speeds: about 405 H/s on stock 390X, 450 H/s on stock Nano, 290 H/s on stock 280X, 295 H/s on stock RX480. It however has issues working with higher intensity on older GPUs with less VRAM such as 280X where the intensity may need to be lowered. Also on mining rigs with 6x GPUs where you may have just 4GB of system memory you may observe trouble running the miner properly on all 6 cards at maximum performance unless you have set at least 20GB SWAP file. Lowering the intensity manually may help, but it is much eaрier to just increase the amount of space allocated for the swap file…

Nowadays people are making multi-GPU mining rigs for mining crypto currencies from a lot of different materials – plastic, wood, aluminum frames and whatever they have handy. Peter Selmeczy however did go for an interesting approach with his GPU mining rig build – he went on using copper tubes to build his mining rig. Furthermore he has provided a detailed build of his project, so if you think that the idea is cool, you might want to take a look on how he built his rig. The 4 GPU mining rig he built was entirely made from copper tubes and aluminum joints for the tubes. It all goes together with 8 large 140mm Noctua fans for better airflow and the color of these fans does go along very well with the copper tubes, so the whole thing does indeed look really cool.

Peter Selmeczy has started working on the second improved version of his built that will have all of the GPUs cooled using the Arctic Cooling Accelero Hybrid III water cooling system, 100% of the wiring passed through the copper tubes, the use of cable combs for the wires and have a significantly reduced size for the whole thing. So you might want to keep an eye out on the progress and how will version 2 of the open frame copper tube mining rig look like when it is finished.
