Wargaming, the company behind the very sucessfull line of strategy-based massively-multiplayer online (MMO) games World of Tanks, World of Warships and World of Warplanes has announced their partnership with BitPay to add Bitcoin payment support. The company’s games are all free to play, and players can customize their gaming with new weapons and vehicles by purchasing in game resources and items. Now players in the United States can use Bitcoin to get the virtual gold that serves as Wargaming’s currency for in-game power-ups in World of Tanks, World of Warships, and World of Warplanes. Unfortunately there is no information if or when Bitcoin support will be added for other regions as the announcement specifically mentions support only for United States. Also it seems that Wargaming is not promoting the availability of Bitcoin payments as a separate entry in the list fo available payments yet and instead it is a part of the online payment types and not as a separate major entry in the list of available payment options. Still it is good news for both the players of the games and for Bitcoin as it continues to get accepted by more and more merchants as a payment method along other more traditional and established payment methods.

For a guide how you can use Bitcoin as a payment method in the different games…

Back in 2010 when Bitcoin was still very new and easy to be mined a guy called Laszlo Hanyecz, a programmer from USA and an early Bitcoin adopter, spent 10000 BTC for two pizzas and this is believed to be the first real-world transaction using Bitcons for payment. Laszlo posted his request on the BitcoinTalk forum on May 18th, 2010 and on May 22nd he reported that he has successfully spent 10000 BTC for pizza provided by a user called jercos. So five years ago 10000 BTC could get you two pizzas and now you can get the same with just a small fraction of 1 Bitcoin and 10000 BTC at the moment equal about 2,380,000 USD. This is the actual origin of the Bitcoin Pizza Day, so happy celebrations today exactly 5 years layer…

A little over a month ago Pi Supply, an online store selling Raspberry Pis and accessories for them among some other interesting products, announced that they have started accepting payments with Bitcoin. We have decided to check how will things go, so we made an order and paid with Bitcoins for it with the idea to share our experience with you after that. Well it is time to share that experience and it is not positive at all, about a month layer we still have not received our order paid with Bitcoins. We have not received any email from Pi Supply saying that they are out of stock or there will be a delay with shipping our order or about any kind of a problem. A few days ago we even tried contacting them to see what is going on since it was getting almost a month since we have made an order and paid for it with BTC… still no answer from the store.

So in short, we would not recommend to purchase anything at Pi Supply and pay with Bitcoins. Do your payments with PayPal and ask for your money back if you end up in a situation like us when you are not getting what you have ordered a month later. You can also pay with a Credit Card and do a Chargeback if you encounter a problem like this, but unfortunately there is not much you can do if you have paid for an order with Bitcoins like we did and you are not getting your ordered items and not getting a reply with an adequate reason. Unfortunately contacting the Bitcoin payment processor that Pi-Supply uses – BitPay and explaining the situation to them did not bring any positive results.
