ccminer-1-7-3-tpruvot-decred

Tpruvot, one of the ccMiner developers has released a test version of his fork with Decred (DCR) support with getwork over the stratum protocol (source) along with the needed support for yiimp (source), his fork of the yaamp multipool software. We have compiled a Windows binary from the test version with Decred support and getwork over the stratum and have tested it on yiimp.ccminer.org to see how well it is performing. The result was just as you would expect from any good mining pool with stratum support – no stale shares and properly working difficulty adjustment. This version also comes with the regular getwork support, so it will work with the regular Decred mining pools as well. You are welcomed to try mining Decred on the Yiimp pool with the test version of ccMiner 1.7.3 form tpruvot, the Windows binary below is a 32-bit one, compiled with VS2013 and CUDA 6.5 and it should be compatible with older Compute 2.0 or later Nvidia GPUs plus a 64-bit one with CUDA 7.5 for Compute 3.5 and newer GPUs.

Update: The Decred (DCR) mining pool at Suprnova (https://dcr.suprnova.cc/) now also has a stratum enabled port that will work with this miner, so you can test it there as well if you are mining Decred with Nvidia GPUs. Download again for the latest updates that should help resove issues people are having with stratum on Suprnova.

ccminer-1-7-2-tpruvot

Version 1.7.2 of tpruvot’s ccMiner fork source) for GPU mining on Nvidia-based video cards has been released and it comes with official support for Vanillacoin (VNL) as well as Decred (DCR) support. Below you can find compiled Windows binaries to try out the mining them, both are Blake256-based, but with some different requirements such as the need to use longpoll and getwork, and no support for stratum for Decred for example. There are two versions available, the 32-bit one is with support for older Compute 2.1 and 3.0 GPUs while the 64-bit version is for the newer Compute 3.5, 5 and 5.2 cards. We have tested the new release on GTX 970 and the results are slightly better at about 1.35 GHS (with the 64-bit miner) than what we are getting with the cgminer fork for Decred that relies on OpenCL that is also compatible with Nvidia cards. The ccMiner fork might be helpful to people that are having very high CPU usage with cgminer that results in lower mining performance, though the CPU load is still not that low even with ccMiner. Also the use of ccMiner for mining Decred could result in less rejected shares from the pool and no weird errors as some people are experiencing with cgminer, so if you are mining DCR on Nvidia with cgminer, then you should try with ccMiner as well.

cgminer-decred-dcr

A quick reminder that in a few hours the official launch of Decred (DCR), a new interesting PoW/PoS altcoin is happening. Decred is currently running on testnet with the official launch of the mainnet planned on 12:00 PM CST February 8th, 2016 – you can watch a live countdown here. here crypto currency uses Blake256 14-rounds algorithm for mining and there is a cgminer fork (source) already available, though currently only getwork is supported and not stratum. The cgminer for Decred GPU mining is available below, compiled for 64-bit Windows, ready for mining solo or on some of the mining pools for DCR. This cgminer works on both AMD and Nvidia GPUs as the currently available ccMiner forks from tpruvot and sp do not yet have support for Decred even though they do have support for Blake256 14-rounds algorithm.

If you manage to catch the official launch it is better to start by solo mining with a local wallet as this might be more profitable at the start and then switch to some of the available Decred (DCR) mining pools. This might be a bit of a challenge however as there is no yet a GUI wallet for the coin, so you will need to use the console version of the wallet to make things work before you are able to start mining solo. There are already binaries available for the wallet, but they are password protected and the password will be posted at the coin’s launch. So you have a few hours to get everything downloaded and ready for the official launch, you can even test on the testnet before the launch of the main network to make sure everything is working properly.

Download and try the cgminer fork for mining Decred on Windows (64-bit miner)…
