The new EWBF Cuda Equihash Miner is turning out to be the go to miner for Nvidia GPUs when talking about Equihash solvers other than the “original” 200,9 one used by Zcash (ZEC) now that there are ASIC miners available for it. The latest version 0.4 adds support for a new solver for Equihash 210,9 used by AION along with the other already supported Equihash solvers 192,7, 144,5 and 96,5. The latest version also includes some improvements and fixes as well, so if you are using previous version you might want to upgrade to v.04. We are reminding you that the EWBF Cuda Equihash Miner is a closed source miner, there are CUDA 8.0 and 9.1 binaries available for Windows and Linux and there is a 2% developer fee built-in by default.

The official Equihash algorithm (equihash 200,9) as used by ZCash (ZEC) may have moved in the domain of ASIC miners, but that does not mean that a modified version of algorithm cannot be still used by other coins and be GPU mined. An example is the Bitcoin Gold (BTG) that is forking to Equihash-BTG (equihash 144,5) and other coins like BitcoinZ (BTCZ) that are forking to equihash 144,5 both of which are not ASIC mineable with Equihash ASIC miners due to the different parameters from the “original” Equihash that uses 200,9. Generally these two variations do require much more video memory in order to work and also the performance in terms of hashrate is significantly lower than that of the original Equihash parameters, so it is hard to make ASIC miners for them.

EWBF, whose original Equihash miner was one of the first and most popular for mining ZCash (ZEC) and other Equihash-based crypto coins, has released a new miner that is targeted at supporting the new Equihash 192,7 and 144,5 algorithms. The new EWBF Cuda Equihash Miner v0.1 is intended for Nvidia GPU mining rigs and is intended for mining of coins that fork from the original Equihash 200,9 algorithm like BTG and BTCZ for example. Aside from options for the two algorithms the miner also comes with an additional option to set personalization string (8 characters) for equihash algorithms that may require this. Do note that this is a closed source miner, there are binaries available for Windows and Linux and there is a 2% developer fee built-in by default.

lolMiner-mnx is a new miner for Mining MinexCoin (MNX) or any other coin that uses the Equihash 96/5 algorithm. Do note that the this is not the same algorithm used by ZCash (ZEC), there it is Equihash 200/9, so this miner is not compatible for mining traditional Equihash coins. The lolMiner-mnx is a closed source OpenCL miner being developed from scratch, so it is not based on existing opensource code. Currently it is available as 64-bit binary releases for both Linux and Windows, although it uses OpenCL it should compatible with pretty much any GPU including Intel and Nvidia and not only AMD.

The miner still needs some work, especially on Nvidia GPUs where by default it is pretty heavy on the CPU load and memory usage as well. It is recommended that Nvidia users add the parameter --enable-nv-hotfix in order to reduce the CPU load a bit, but still running the miner on the main GPU may make the system a bit unresponsive even with that parameter. Still if you are interested in mining MNX (even with the high hashrate and low block reward at the moment) or any other Equihash 96/5 coin you might want to check the lolMiner-mnx out.

Linux users can also use the Optiminer/Equihash miner as a solution for mining different variations of the Equihash algorithm (Equihash 200/9, Equihash 192/7, Equihash 96/5). A Windows version is supposed to come out at some point, but it is still not available for the moment.
