New bfgminer 4.1.99 Fork with Support for ZeusMiner Scrypt ASICs

It seems that there is now an alternative to the official cgminer 3.1.1 with Zeus support in the form of a new fork of bfgminer that adds support for ZeusMiner’s Scrypt ASICs (source). This fork is compatible with GAWMiners and Hashra Zeus-based Scrypt ASICs as well and it pretty much uses the same options as the official cgminer, but comes with support for many more features since it is based off the latest version of bfgminer. Below you can find a windows binary of the bfgminer 4.1.99 that you can try, just make sure to set the right number of chips depending on your miner model as well as the virtual COM port at which the miner is detected. The best operating frequency still seems to be 328 MHz for most people as a good balance in terms of performance and HW error rate, though you are welcome to play with it.

We Just Got a 27 MHS GAWMiners Falcon Scrypt ASIC Miner

Today we got a 27 MHS GAWMiners Falcon Scrypt ASIC Miner based on the 55 nm Zeus Scrypt ASIC chips and we have just finished setting up the device and started testing it. Our initial impressions are quite good so far and once we play a bit more with the device we are going to share all of them with you, so expect a lot more details in the next few days as we continue to test the Scrypt ASIC miner. Aside from the 27 MHS Falcon, GAWMiners also has both a faster model – the 54 MHS War Machine, as well as slower and more affordable models such as the 13 MHS Black Widow and the smallest 1.3 MHS Fury. In fact the Fury is currently probably the most affordable small Scrypt ASIC miner in production, along with the Zeus Blizzard, now that Gridseed has stopped producing their 5-chip GC3355-based miners.

We do need smaller and affordable Scrypt ASIC miners in order for them to be accessible to normal miners that want to mine DOGE for example with no resources to buy a 10K USD Scrypt ASIC miner like the big mining farms can. While the initial price of the 1 MHS+ Scrypt ASICs was not the best at about $200 USD, their latest price is much more reasonable and affordable at $139.95 USD and can get even better if you buy multiple units. This should allow the Scrypt hashing power to remain distributed among many people and not get centralized in the hands of just few big mining farms, otherwise there is a high risk of more and more people going away from Scrypt crypto currencies and moving to other alternatives.

The New bfgminer 4.0.0 is Now Officially Available

The software bfgminer 4.0.0 has been released and now the latest version does come with official support for Gridseed-based ASIC devices built-in, among a lot of other new features and improvements. The miner is intended for mining Scrypt and SHA-256 crypto currencies and the biggest advantage is the support for many ASIC miners, though most of these are still for Bitcoin mining and not for Scrypt. If used for Gridseed ASIC mining the advantage here is that you don’t need to replace the virtual USB to COM drivers with WinUSB or to send as parameters the COM ports for the ASIC devices to the miner – they will be autodetected. Below you can download the compiled windows binaries for the miner (32 and 64-bit) and be sure to check the example BAT files for running on Gridseed ASICs or just for Scrypt mining with a GPU. You can also compile bfgminer from source if you are using other operating system for example.
