kopiemtu

KopiemTu is an Lubuntu Linux-based mining distribution for Nvidia GPUs that has been available for quite some time already. The latest KopiemTu 3.0 that was just released however brings support for the latest generation of Nvidia Pascal-based GPUs – the GTX 1000 series. It comes with CUDA 8.0 support and GeForce GTX 370.28 driver, including support for overclocking or underclocking some GTX 1×00 GPUs. The whole mining distribution should fit on a 16GB USB flash drive making it easier to deploy and use without the need of a dedicated hard drive for the mining rig. There is a simple yet convenient web-based monitoring of your mining rigs activity available, so it is easy to keep track of them without the need to connect to each and every one of them. The distribution relies on ccMiner and the default version is apparently compiled for Pascal GPUs, though you can apparently easily configure it to be used with older Nvidia GPUs.

ccminer-1-8-3-git

A quick update with a new Windows binary compiled from the latest ccMiner 1.8.3-git fork from tpruvot (source) with some improvement in the LBRY mining performance based on Alexis Provos work and basic implementation of the Veltor algorithm with some other minor fixes. The release below includes two versions of ccMiner, one is 32-bit binary for Windows that is compiled with CUDA 7.5 and with support for Compute 2.0 or newer Nvidia GPUs, and another that is 64-bit Windows binary compiled with CUDA 7.5 for Compute 3.5 or newer Nvidia GPUs. We have tried compiling the 32-bit version of ccminer with CUDA 6.5, but the resulting version did have some issues with LBRY, so we have compiled with 7.5 as well and it worked fine.

marlin-opencl-miner

The Siamining mining pool for SiaCoin (SC) that we have already covered a couple of times has something new and interesting for the people mining SIA. They have released a new Stratum-only OpenCL GPU miner for their mining pool that is designed to be fast, lightweight and easy to use. Do note the miner is supporting only SiaMining’s Stratum protocol implementation as there are a few different Stratum approaches, so the miner will not work with other pools unless they have implemented the same Stratum support. We have tried the Marlin miner and it seems to work pretty well, delivering what the devs promise indeed.

What we don’t like about it however is that there is no source code published on their GitHub and only a 32-bit Windows binary and 64-bit are available for users to download. Since there is no source you cannot compile the miner yourself and that may be a limiting factor for some users. Do note that even though the miner is OpenCL one you can also use it on Nvidia GPUs as well as on AMD, unfortunately tpruvot’s ccMiner fork does not yet support the Stratum protocol used by SiaMining. So if you are Ok with downloading binary releases, you can do so and try the Marlin miner yourself… that is if you are mining SiaCoin on the SiaMining pool or are planning to check it out.
