DarkCoin (DRK), now renamed to DASH, aims to be the first privacy-centric cryptographic currency with fully encrypted transactions and anonymous block transactions. These features are a work on progress and will be released in stages in the near future. DarkCoin (DRK) uses a specialized CPU and GPU miners, so you will need to download these in order to be able to mine this new crypto, download links are available below.

DarkCoin uses a new chained hashing algorithm approach, with many new scientific hashing algorithms for the proof-of-work. This is so that the processing distribution is fair and coins will be distributed in much the same way Bitcoins were originally. ASICs will be much more difficult to make for these algorithms and will take years, so GPU mining should be the main solution for mining these coins.

Blakecoin is a experimental cryptographic digital currency that enables payments to anyone, anywhere in the world. Blakecoin uses peer-to-peer technology to operate with no central authority: managing transactions and issuing coins are carried out collectively by the network.

Blakecoin (BLC) uses Blake-256 (optimized) faster than Scrypt, SHA-256D and Keccak algorithm and thus provides much faster hashrate from the same hardware as compared to the other alternatives. The algorithm was written as a candidate for SHA-3, based on round one candidate code from the Sphlib 2.1 library and reduced the round function to 8 rounds. BLC can currently be mined with both CPU, GPU and FPGA, though GPU mining is the best option at the moment for AMD graphics card owners. Blakecoin (BLC) requires a special miner software!

The Blake-256 algorithm hash rate is just under 3x faster on the GPU and just over 2x on the FPGA compared with Bitcoin. So for example with a Radeon R9 280X you can expect to get a hashrate of about 2-2.5 GH/s or more when mining Blackecoin. The reward for mining Blakecoin does Not decrease over time it only increases with block height and difficulty. Block reward is 25 coin + inflation (square root of (difficulty * block height)) and the total of 7 Billion coins will be mined.

Protoshare Mining Test at 1GH PTS Mining Pool

After trying out PTS mining at ypool we have also decided to try out another Protoshares mining pool with CPU mining to see if we are going to get better results with the Round-Based Pay Per Share (RBPPS) payment system and the lower 3.5% fee that the 1GH PTS mining pool has. We’ve been testing the pool with GPU miners lately, however for the last 24 hours we tested only with CPU miners to see what profit we are going to get.

The two CPUs we’ve used for mining are:
– Intel Core i5 2500K Quad Core 3.3 GHz
– AMD Phenom II X6 1100T Six Core 3.3 GHz

The 1GH pool we used for PTS mining has:
– 3.5% fee

The total earnings for 24 hour period (confirmed + unconfirmed):
– 0.1169 PTS

The value of the Protoshares mined for 24 hours is as follows:
– 0.00173806 BTC
– ~$1.38 USD

The profit we got from the 1GH PTS mining pool was a bit higher than the one we’ve managed to get for 24 hours at ypool, however the difference in USD is also affected by the BTC/USD and PTS/BTC exchange rates. What is clear however is the fact that there is not much point in mining Protoshares (PTS) with CPU at the moment, if you plan on mining Protoshares then you need to think about going for GPU mining. The 1GH Protoshares mining pool has a very good performing GPU miner that works on both AMD graphics and Nvidia graphics very well. Furthermore the 1GH pool has another advantage over ypool and that s the fact that this pool sends automatically your earnings as long as they are over 0.1 PTS confirmed and in ypool the minimum is 1 PTS.
