While we are still waiting for the upcoming Avalon A9 Bitcoin ASIC miners that will be based on 7nm technology, Canaan Creative has apparently started selling AvalonMiner 851… the successor of 841. The new AvalonMiner 851 is based on the same 16 nm A3210HP ASIC chips that the 841 uses, though apparently there have been some optimizations in order for the new model to reach 15 THS up from 13.6 THS for the 841 version. So with Canaan AvalonMiner 851 you get 15 THS hashrate for Bitcoin mining with 1450W of power usage, allowing for a slightly better hashrate density, but not much of an efficiency improvement in terms of power usage. It is interesting to note that at the official Canaan website the AvalonMiner 841 is listed at $425 USD while the 851 is at $450 USD or just 25 dollars more, though wit distributors the price difference would be higher.

The Canaan Creative has released some information about their upcoming next generation Avalon A9 Bitcoin ASIC miners based on 7nm technology that will supposedly provide 30 THS hashrate with 1720 Watts of power usage. This will make the Avalon A9 much more interesting that the recently announced GMO B3 as well as the Innosilicon Terminator 2 Turbo that will not be able to provide such level of efficiency. Of course we are yet to see what will Bitmain be offering as they are still not responding to the competition with a more up to date product in the 20-30 THS range, but for now the new Avalon seems to be the most interesting efficiency wise. The price of the Avalon A9 is also going to play an important role and we are yet to see when it will be available and for how much…

Another interesting information coming from the company is their upcoming line of TV sets – LB4318 with built-in ASIC mining chips. The TV set is with a 43-inch 4K panel and features 26x A3210 16nm mining chips providing 2.8 THS hashrate with 100 Watts per THS power usage. It is definitely an interesting product with different purpose that comes with built-in mining capabilities and will show if there is going to be interest in such a range of devices in general. There has been talk about connected consumer-oriented devices with built-in crypto mining capabilities for quite some time, but we are yet to see them on the market.

Canaan’s Avalon ASIC miners do not seem to be getting much attention unlike Bitmain’s for example, but that doesn’t mean they do not have something new and interesting to show from time to time. Their latest creation Canaan Moose is an integrated Bitcoin ASIC miner solution that offers 156 THS SHA256 hashrate for BTC mining in a single package that is ready to be plugged in and start mining. The miner is based on twelve Avalon 841 that consume a total of 15480 Watts of power and the miner needs three phase power in the from of two IEC 60309 16A power connectors.

Canaan Moose Specifications:
– Hashrate: 156TH/s, -5% ~ +10% : Average 163.2
– Power Consumption: 15480W, +0% ~ +20% @ 13TH/s, 25°C, 93% PSU Efficiency, 12V AC, Wall-Plug
– Power Efficiency: 0.099J / GigaHash Wall-Plug
– Power Connectors: IEC 60309 16A x 2
– Rated Input Voltage: 365 ~ 418V
– Frequency: Smart Speed
– Network Connection: RJ45 Network Connector
– Operating Temperature: -5℃ ~ 30℃
– Air-intake Temperature: -5℃ ~ 30℃
– Dimensions: 890 x 450 x 725 cm
– Net weight: 140kg

The 156 THS Canaan Moose ASIC miner is priced at $9900 USD and comes with everything ready to be used, you just need to plug power and internet and set your mining pool and worker. No need to setup things using 12 separate ASIC miners, everything is ready to go with power supplies, network connectivity and miner control. It even seems to come cheaper than purchasing 12 separate miners, 12 power supplies and a miner controller, so it might be of interest to some larger scale miners as a ready to deploy solution… it is even stackable.
