The RavenCoin (RVN) fork has been successfully executed and mining with GPUs is back once more with mining profitability of RVN the highest at the moment among GPU-mineable altcoins thanks to no significant change in the price. The hashrate is now about 5 times lower than before the fork, so most likely the presence of FPGAs and even maybe ASIC miners for the X16R algorithm is really significant. Anyway, apart from z-enemy and T-Rex miners for Nvidia there is a third option available now with X16Rv2 support. The new entry is the just released CryptoDredge v0.22.0 that now supports the X16Rv2 algorithm, like with other closed source Nvidia GPU miners, CryptoDredge also comes with a 1% dev fee for the X16RV2 algorithm. Our quick tests have shown that on GTX 1080 Ti the performance of CryptoDredge miner with X16Rv2 is not as high as on the current hashrate leader T-Rex… it is more like similar to that of z-enemy.

Tomorrow Ravencoin (RVN) will be forking at 16:00:00 UTC and the fork comes with a change from the current X16R to the new X16RV2 algorithm and you need to make sure you are ready for the switch. First off you need to make sure that you have the latest Raven Core wallet installed (if you do use a local wallet). Mining pools should be updated already or should make sure they are also ready for the switch of the algorithm before the fork occurs, so nothing to worry about that, just make sure that the mining ports and URLs will remain the same after the fork. You would of course also need to update your mining software, depending on the hardware you use, in order to be able to continue mining wit the next X16Rv2 algorithm after the fork occurs. There are already a couple of software miners that announced support for the X16Rv2, though not all of the ones with X16R support are ready for the new algorithm, below are listed the ones that already support X16Rv2 mining on AMD, Nvidia and CPUs.

Nvidia GPU miners with X16Rv2 support:
z-enemy 2.2 Nvidia GPU miner (1% dev fee)
T-Rex 0.14.4 Nvidia GPU miner (1% dev fee)

AMD GPU miners with X16Rv2 support:
teamredminer v0.5.9 AMD GPU miner (2.5% dev fee)

CPU miners with X16Rv2 support:
cpuminer-opt 3.9.8 CPU miner (free and opensource)

We have not talked about the BitCash (BITC) project for quite some time, but it just got our attention once more with its recent fork. BitCash has moved to the new X16Rv2 algorithm, however you will not be able to GPU mine it for the moment as the existing miner software does not support the specific header that BITC uses. So until there is official support from a GPU miner specifically for the BITC variant of X16Rv2 the coin can only be solo CPU mined via the wallet. This might be interesting for some miners out there that have decent CPUs sitting idle as this might be a good opportunity for you to stack up some coins before GPU mining becomes available again.

Update: BitCash will have another hard fork in a few days on 6 October 10:00 UTC to correct the problem with the mining. This hard fork will bring back the possibility of GPU mining. There is a new wallet version 0.17.20 already. Everybody needs to upgrade to the new version. After the new fork we should be able to use the T-Rex GPU again for X16Rv2 mining with GPUs.
