Canaan’s Avalon ASIC miners do not seem to be getting much attention unlike Bitmain’s for example, but that doesn’t mean they do not have something new and interesting to show from time to time. Their latest creation Canaan Moose is an integrated Bitcoin ASIC miner solution that offers 156 THS SHA256 hashrate for BTC mining in a single package that is ready to be plugged in and start mining. The miner is based on twelve Avalon 841 that consume a total of 15480 Watts of power and the miner needs three phase power in the from of two IEC 60309 16A power connectors.

Canaan Moose Specifications:
– Hashrate: 156TH/s, -5% ~ +10% : Average 163.2
– Power Consumption: 15480W, +0% ~ +20% @ 13TH/s, 25°C, 93% PSU Efficiency, 12V AC, Wall-Plug
– Power Efficiency: 0.099J / GigaHash Wall-Plug
– Power Connectors: IEC 60309 16A x 2
– Rated Input Voltage: 365 ~ 418V
– Frequency: Smart Speed
– Network Connection: RJ45 Network Connector
– Operating Temperature: -5℃ ~ 30℃
– Air-intake Temperature: -5℃ ~ 30℃

The 156 THS Canaan Moose ASIC miner is priced at $9900 USD and comes with everything ready to be used, you just need to plug power and internet and set your mining pool and worker. No need to setup things using 12 separate ASIC miners, everything is ready to go with power supplies, network connectivity and miner control. It even seems to come cheaper than purchasing 12 separate miners, 12 power supplies and a miner controller, so it might be of interest to some larger scale miners as a ready to deploy solution… it is even stackable.

The Baikal Miner BK-X ASIC miner has received an update adding support for two more crypto algorithms, namely Nist5 and X11Ghost, bringing the total number of supported algos to 7 with more promised to be added later on. The Baikal Miner BK-X was originally introduced as Baikal Giant X10 and it had support fonly for X11, Quark and Qubit algorithms, but since then support for Myraid-Groestl, Skein and now Nist5 and X11Ghost has been added with even more apparently coming. In order to get access tot the two new mining algorithms you will need to update the OrangePI Zero controller that the miner uses to the new version 1.2 on your Giant X10 or BK-X ASIC miner.

On a side note Baikal Miner has been running some “crazy” sales on their other two ASIC miners, The Baikal Miner BK-N for Cryptonight and Cryptonight-lite is in pay 1 get 5 sale ($1900 USD) and the Baikal Miner BK-B for Blake256R14/Blake256R8/Blake2B/Lbry/Pascal is in pay 1 get 2 sale ($2699 USD). This is a hint that there is not much demand for the two devices apparently, especially for the Cryptonight ASIC where the competition is very big and coins have already started switching to the new CryptonightV7 like Monero (XMR) leading the way that is already not mineable with these devices.

Here you can find the updated OrangePI Zero image that you need to flash on the device…

When it comes to mining ZCash (ZEC) or other Equihash-based crypto coins on Nvidia GPUs for most people it is time for the EWBF ZCash CUDA miner, however it seems that the development of that miner has been abandoned a while ago. There have been a few alternatives available that we have covered with dstm’s ZCash Cuda Miner being a very promising successor. The problem with it was that there were a few key features that were missing up until recently, but that is no longer the case with this miner. So if you were reluctant to give it a try, now you might want to reconsider and test it on your Nvidia mining hardware.

dstm’s ZCash Cuda miner version 0.6 adds failover pool support, one of the features that we wanted to see the most to make this a really good alternative. It is not failover pool support only however, the latest version introduces support for configuration files as well and an option to control mining intensity for the GPUs. There are also a number of other new features added as well as improvements that might be useful for some people, but we can already say that dstm’s ZCash Cuda miner is now the better miner when compared with EWBF ZCash CUDA miner, so if you are still using EWBF’s software you might want to give dstm’s one a go. Do note that dstm’s ZCash Cuda miner should be faster performing in terms of hashrate with the same settings, also there is a 2% developer fee included with this closed source miner.
