Something interesting for everyone that has taken interest in Merit (MRT) and is mining the crypto currency, a new third parity Nvidia GPU miner for the Cuckoo cycle algorithm used by the project is now available. If you still have not checked Merit, but are interested read more about it in our post and you can request an invite since we currently have a few more extra available to give out. Since invites are limited and hard to acquire, please apply only if you really are interested in trying out Merit and do not waste them without a reason.

The just released zjazz CUDA miner is intended to provide alternative to the official miner, giving more flexibility and stability as well as performance in some cases. The new miner comes with multiple options to reduce the CPU load for GPU mining rigs with slower CPUs (Merit mining is still CPU heavy) or to maximize performance on mining machines with more powerful processors increasing the hashrate you get. There are multiple options available to play with that control CPU load and mining performance depending on your mining hardware. More importantly the miner itself seems more stable and does not seem to be crashing on systems that we have experienced crashes from the official Merit miner. Do note however that the zjazz CUDA Miner is a closed source software and comes with a built-in development fee of 2% and there is currently Windows only binary available.

While we are still waiting for the upcoming Avalon A9 Bitcoin ASIC miners that will be based on 7nm technology, Canaan Creative has apparently started selling AvalonMiner 851… the successor of 841. The new AvalonMiner 851 is based on the same 16 nm A3210HP ASIC chips that the 841 uses, though apparently there have been some optimizations in order for the new model to reach 15 THS up from 13.6 THS for the 841 version. So with Canaan AvalonMiner 851 you get 15 THS hashrate for Bitcoin mining with 1450W of power usage, allowing for a slightly better hashrate density, but not much of an efficiency improvement in terms of power usage. It is interesting to note that at the official Canaan website the AvalonMiner 841 is listed at $425 USD while the 851 is at $450 USD or just 25 dollars more, though wit distributors the price difference would be higher.

Move away Antminer Z9 Mini, Bitmain is starting to sell the “full” Antminer Z9 that will supposedly offer 40000 Sol/s for Equihash mining at 1150W of power usage with deliveries starting at the beginning of September and priced at $3319 USD (PSU is not included). For comparison the already available Antminer Z9 Mini offered just 10000 at about 250W of power usage. On the other hand there is also the Innosilicon A9 ZMaster Equihash ASIC Miner that offers 50 Ksol/s at just 620 Watts of power usage, but at three times higher price and currently out is of stock.

Bitmain is currently showing only a rendering of the new device, not an actual photo, but it seems like two slightly longer Z9 Minis stitched together (maybe an extra chip or to per board). We already know that the chips used in the Z9 Mini are overclocking pretty well, so two Z9 Minis can easily reach 30 KSol/s at maybe about 700 Watts and three overclocked units can go for as much as 45 KSol/s with just about a Kilowatt of power usage. Considering this and the fact that the device apparently only has 7 PCI-E power connectors (6 for ASIC boards and 1 for the control board) we can easily assume that Bitmain may have achieved the high power usage with less chips that are already overclocked quite a lot. If they did do just that the price of the new “more powerful” units may not be justified and you should not be expecting to see a lot of headroom for improving performance like on the Minis.
