Nvidia has Introduced the New GeForce GTX 1660 Ti GPU

Nvidia has introduced a new mid-range GPU – the GeFotce GTX 1660 Ti that is intended for gamers looking for an affordable option for reviving their older gaming system’s performance. According to the company the new GPU is 3x faster than a GTX 960, 1.5x faster than a GTX 1060, and offers comparable performance to a GTX 1070. So if it is comparable in terms of performance to GTX 1070, then why release a new GPU? Well, the new GTX 1660 Ti is built on the latest Turing architecture (still not named RTX and 2xxx series, but GTX and 1xxx series), which debuted with the top GeForce RTX 2080 Ti GPUs. It also features the new GDDR6 video memory with a 192-bit wide memory bus at jus 120W of TDP. With the new GeForce GTX 1660 Ti you can get an up to date GPU that is more affordable than the GTX 1070 with recommended prices starting at $279 USD.

Although the new Nvidia GeForce GTX 1660 Ti is intended for gamers with a more limited budgets looking for upgrading their aging mid-range gaming graphics, it might turn out to be an interesting choice for mining as well. If it manages to offer good performance for crypto mining similar or even better than that of the older GTX 1070 with the lower power usage and price range it might spark some interest. Of course for that to happen we need to see some movement in the profitability of GPU mining following some good and strong signs of crypto market recovery, prior to that the new GPU might not be deemed as very attractive by miners. New NBMiner 20.0 With Support for the Cuckatoo31 Algorithm

The latest NBMiner 20.0 has just been released with support for Grin’s Cuckatoo31 algorithm (Cuckaroo29 was already supported) as well as support for mining Grin on NiceHash. The new version also comes with an option to tune CPU usage when mining Grin, improved BTM+ETH dual mining performance on Nvidia RTX video cards s well as some bug fixes. Regarding Cuckatoo31 performance, you can expect to get similar hashrate as what the previously fastest BMiner 15.0 miner provides, however stability wise NBMiner does seem to be handling better based on our initial impressions from the new version under Windows 10.

GMiner CUDA Equihash Miner v1.33 With AMD Support for Beam and Fixes

The latest GMiner version 1.33 comes with added AMD support for BEAM mining (currently only under Windows) as well as improved performance for Grin29/Aeternity and fixes. In fact this is a fixed release of the GMiner 1.32 release that was quickly recalled because of issues with GRIN soon after it was made available, the 1.33 seem to work fine for the moment. The performance you can expect from the miner for BEAM (Equihash 150,5 algorithm) is very close to what lolMiner 0.7 alpha5 manages to deliver and both miners do seem to work fine regarding NieHash support. Cuckatoo 31 performance for Grin mining is still slower (almost double) than what the latest Bminer 15.0 provides, though GMiner is more stable.

The GMiner Nvidia CUDA miner requires an Nvidia GPU with CUDA compute capability 5.0 or later as well as CUDA 9.0 driver support. Do note that GMiner is a closed source miner for Nvidia GPUs with binaries available for both Windows and Linux, also there is a 2% developer fee built-in the software.
