Anyone Still Expecting ASICs From Alpha Technology

The Alpha Technology Scrypt ASIC manufacturer has been silent for more than a month already since their last update, even though they did promise to release a video of a prototype miner after showing pictures of the chips that they have apparently received already. Since then however there is no word on anything going on, no video, no new delay information for the shipment schedule of the actual products, no nothing. Interesting enough the company seems to be still sending partial refunds to users that wanted to get these instead of continue to wait for hardware. In the end the intention of Alpha Technology could’ve been just that – promise something, not delivering it and returning a percentage of the money they’ve got from customers, and keeping the rest. It all sounds a lot like a classic scheme for a scam as apparently the company does not plan to deliver anything, even if they have actually made some hardware, or at least things look more and more like that is the case. In the meantime customers are apparently working on taking legal action against the company, though it seems that many have already asked and received partial refunds and have given up completely on dealing with Alpha Technology as well.
The Bitcoin ASIC manufacturer Spondoolies Tech is targeting the home miners with the new price of their 1.7 THS SP20 Jackson Bitcoin ASIC miner that is now available for a price of $795 USD with the November Batch 1 of the miner starting to ship on November 18th. The SP20 Jackson SHA-256 ASIC miner consists of 8 28nm Spondoolies-Tech RockerBox ASICs, comes with a dedicated Linux-based controller box that uses an Ethernet port for connecting the miner to your network. The miner does not come with a built-in power supply, you will need to add an external one that will be connected to the ASIC via 4 6-pin PCI-E connectors and it would need a minimum 1200W high quality PSU (1152 Watts actual power used according to the manufacturer). The one thing that is not very clear about the SP20 ASIC miner is what is he level of noise the cooling of the device produces (hopefully less than 60 Decibels), as in order to be suitable for home mining it should not be as loud as a server. Spondoolies Tech is probably not a know name for some of you as the company specializes in miners that are mostly used by larger mining operations and is also the supplier of some big cloud mining operations such as Genesis Mining for example. We suspect that the noise level at the listed power specification will not be very low, so do have in mind if you are interested in getting one of these to mine at home with.

Last month when the first water cooled Bitcoin ASIC miner from Bitmain – AntMiner C1 was announced you had to either buy the water cooling kit separately from another supplier or use your own components for completeling the water cooling of the miner. It seems that for Batch 2 of the Bitmain AntMiner C1 the company has decided to actually sell the full kit to customers, making it easier and more problem free for the users that now get a complete solution.
The price of the miner is the same as you could previously order it if you also included the suggested water cooling kit – 400 USD (1.092 BTC). As we have previously mentioned the components that Bitmain previously suggested and now includes with the miner for the water cooling solution are available at a quite good price as compared to wath you normally have to pay for some high-end water cooling components. So a good deal as apparently this kit should be able to do just fine in cooling the miner and keeping the noise level low.
