simplemining1

This is an interesting project under development – a Linux-based operating system intended for miners of Ethereum or Ethereum (ETC) plus SiaCoin (SC) dual mining that comes with a centralized web-based monitoring and control dashboard. The SimpleMining Easy OS uses the Claymore Dual Miner, though it does not yet support all of the video cards that are supported by the miner. You can use it only on AMD Radeon R300/R200/HD7xxx series of GPUs with support for Radeon RX400 expected to be available soon and maybe even Nvidia support to be added at a later time. What is interesting is that you don’t need to use remote control software to monitor and change the operating parameters of your Mining Rigs, you can do it through a dashboard on the official website of the project directly.

simplemining2

The latest update of the SimpleMining Easy OS did bring even overclocking support through the dashboard, though that may not be wise if you don’t know what your GPUs can handle… it is best to find the optimal settings with direct access to the mining rig as it may hang with the wrong frequencies. For the moment SimpleMining Easy OS does need at least an 8GB drive (could be used from a USB stick) and you only need to set your email in the configuration that you are going to be using to login on the website for monitoring and control of the mining rig. There are some security concerns regarding the access from web and the login with only email address though, so you might want to be careful what email address you use.

claymore

Claymore’s Dual Miner now offers support for both AMD and Nvidia GPUs for both Linux and Windows (binary only releases), so you can dual-mine Ethereum and SIA or DCR at the same time or only use the miner for Ethereum mining. Using Windows 7 is recommended for Nvidia video cards all the way up to Maxwell and Windows 10 updated and with the latest video drivers or Linux is recommended to be used for Ethereum mining, regardless if you use the dual miner or other Ethereum mining software. The latest version 6.3 is no longer beta and it also adds support for NVIDIA 10xx cards in Linux, there are only 64-bit binary builds available though.

Claymore is also making available a modification for a driver for Nvidia Pascal GPUs (GTX 10xx series) for Windows 7 that should work better than the standard ones, so if you are using GTX 1080, GTX 1070 or GTX 1060 on Windows 7 you can check the driver out as well. The Dual miner has support for both Getwork and Stratum for Decred (DCR) as well as Getwork and Stratum for SiaCoin (SC), however not all Stratum implementations are currently supported as there are multiple ones used by different pools!

marlin-opencl-miner

The Siamining mining pool for SiaCoin (SC) that we have already covered a couple of times has something new and interesting for the people mining SIA. They have released a new Stratum-only OpenCL GPU miner for their mining pool that is designed to be fast, lightweight and easy to use. Do note the miner is supporting only SiaMining’s Stratum protocol implementation as there are a few different Stratum approaches, so the miner will not work with other pools unless they have implemented the same Stratum support. We have tried the Marlin miner and it seems to work pretty well, delivering what the devs promise indeed.

What we don’t like about it however is that there is no source code published on their GitHub and only a 32-bit Windows binary and 64-bit are available for users to download. Since there is no source you cannot compile the miner yourself and that may be a limiting factor for some users. Do note that even though the miner is OpenCL one you can also use it on Nvidia GPUs as well as on AMD, unfortunately tpruvot’s ccMiner fork does not yet support the Stratum protocol used by SiaMining. So if you are Ok with downloading binary releases, you can do so and try the Marlin miner yourself… that is if you are mining SiaCoin on the SiaMining pool or are planning to check it out.
