Bminer 15.5.0 With Added Support for Dual-mining ETH and VBK

The latest Bminer 15.5.0 comes with another interesting dual-mining feature that has attracted our attention, namely dual-mining Ethereum (ETH) and VeriBlock (VBK), meaning that you can mine any Ethash coin together with the vBlake2 algorithm used by VBK. The new version also comes with improved performance of the Cuckatoo31 algorithm and added parameter -version to output the current miner version and exit.

What we were most interested in the new version was the support for VBK (no standalone support for the algorithm yet), so only dual mining Ethash and VBK for now. We wanted to see what performance we can expect in this dual mode from VBK as we already know what to expect regarding Ethash hashrate. Unfortunately it seems that VBK support really does need some more work as the miner is somewhat unstable when dual mining and crashes from time to time and results are also erratic. With OhGodAnETHlargementPill running we were not getting any accepted shares for VBK, only stales, and with the Pill software not running it seems that VBlake2 shares are properly submitted. It is hard to understand however what is the exact hashrate for each of the two algorithms when dual mining, so more work is required on that new feature apparently.

We remind you that that Bminer is a closed source Nvidia GPU miner available for Linux and Windows in the form of pre-compiled binaries and that there is a 2% development fee for Grin, Beam, Bytom (BTM), Equihash and Zhash coins, 0.65% for Ethash and 1.3% for dual mining Ethash and Blake.

Obelisk GRN1 ASIC Miners for GRIN Up For Pre-Sale

Obelisk has started with SIA and Decred ASIC miners with a bit of controversy back in 2017, and now they are apparently planning to extend their offers with new GRIN ASIC miners for later this year as it seems this is the new hot thing for ASIC miners – the GRIN’s Cuckatoo31 algorithm. The company has announced the start of a pre-sale for their new GRN1 miner that comes in three form factors: a traditional form factor (GRN1), compact form factor (GRN1 Mini), and an immersion form factor (GRN1 Immersion). The Obelisk GRN1 miners are designed for Grin’s Cuckatoo31+ hashing algorithm and they will NOT Work on the existing Cuckaroo29+ or future Cuckatoo32+ algorithm implementations.

Obelisk will be manufacturing a maximum of 2,500 GRN1 units (60,000 chips), available in first-come, first-serve fashion. GRN1 Mini units count as 1/6th, and GRN1 Immersion units count as 2. Only 2,000 GRN1 units are available in this sale. The remaining 500 will be sold by Obelisk at market-price when production is completed in October. This sale will close on May 3, 2019. Obelisk expects to ship orders in October 2019. New GMiner v1.38 With Additional Improvements For Wider GPU Support

The latest two versions of GMiner 1.37 and 1.38 have increased the supported range of GPUs over what the miner was capable of running on regarding Grin, Swap and Aeternity mining as well as some additional algorithms now also supported on AMD GPUs. GMiner 1.37 added Equihash 144,5 and 192,7 solver support for AMD miners on top of the already existing Cuckaroo29, Cuckoo29, Cuckaroo29s and Equihash 150,5 as well as some minor performance improvements for beam on AMD cards. A 5GB solver for Grin29 / Swap / Aeternity was added as well that allows the mining on 6GB cards under Windows 10 and in the latest release that was further improved by adding 4GB solver for Grin29 and Swap that should work under Linux and Windows 7 on 4GB VRAM GPUs.

The GMiner miner requires an Nvidia GPU with CUDA compute capability 5.0 or later as well as CUDA 9.0 driver support, some algorithms are already supported on AMD GPUs as well (Cuckaroo29, Cuckoo29, Cuckaroo29s, Beam’s Equihash 150,5 as well as the recently added Equihash 144,5 and 192,7).
