The release of the new Gridseed G-Blade Miner at $3000 USD for a 5 MHS ASIC miner coinciding with the recent price drop of the Bitcoin and other crypto currencies did not make it very attractive for miners to buy. It seems however that Gridseed has figured a way to make the new mining hardware more attractive even in the current market conditions, by offering a limited number of units are a price of just $1610 USD or a little over half of the normal price. The new price finally makes the G-Blade Miner a good alternative to buying a number of the smaller 5-chip ASIC miners to get the same performance at a similar price, one of the most serious complaint from users when the new Blade Miner was initially announced with a retail price of $3000 USD.
MinerEU, Gridseed official distributor, has announced a five day (11-15 April) special promotion for the new Gridseed G-Blade Miner at $1610 USD. That is a saving of $1390 USD per miner when compared with the $3000 retail price. The stock for this promotion is limited to 2000 miners only, so hurry up and don’t miss your chance. If you remember the story from last month about an supposedly upcoming 19.2 MHS Scrypt ASIC based on Gridseed chips that was briefly put for preorder on aliexpress by a Chinese seller with not a lot of details, then you would be interested to read this exclusive information hat we just received. We just got some real and exclusive information and photos of the upcoming Gridseed Blade Miners from MinerEU.com, an official Gridseed EU distributor. It seems that the new Gridseed Blade Miner will be officially released next week and we already have some real photos and information about the specifications of the hardware.
The new blade miner will still use GC3355 ASIC chips, the same same as in Gridseeds USB miners. There are 2 PCB panels in each Blade Miner and each panel has 40 GC3355 chips, or you get a total of 80 chips on a single Blade Miner device. Each PCB of the miner has own power socket and USB port to control it, so it is like having two miners in a single package with. The official Scrypt mining hashrate is 5.2 MHS (2.6 MHS for each PCB), but we believe we should be able to improve that hashrate a lot as what we did with their USB ASIC miners by overclocking and modifying them.
We should note that apparently Gridseed is no longer advertising the new Blade Miners for use for BTC (SHA-256) or Dual Mode mining, instead they are intended for use for Scrypt mining only. Using these devices for BTC mining could create power and cooling issues and the resulting hashrate you could expect is definitely not worth it compared to what you should be able to get in Scrypt only mode… especially after overclocking and maybe voltmodding.
The new Gridseed 80-chip Blade Miner is equivalent to 16 Gridseed 5-chip USB miners, the official total hashrate is quoted as 5.2 MHS or about 65 KHS per chip, so there should be some room for improvement with overclock and possibly voltmod. The total power usage at default frequency should be around 64-70W for each panel or a total of about 140W per Blade Miner. The device should be compatible with the already available software miners such as cpuminer, cgminer and bfgminer with Gridseed support as it essentially uses the same way of communication with the computer as the smaller 5-chip devices.

Litecoin Newtork Difficulty Will Soon Decrease a Bit

The last week or so you have probably seen the Litecoin difficulty increasing significantly, but now it should get back to a more normal level getting down a bit, though the steady and slow growth may still continue. The reason for the rapid growth in the last week was most likely the CexIO Doubled Rewards for Litecoin Mining promotion that has attracted a lot of attention. This has lead to many users switching from various alternative crypto currencies to LTC mining, but now that this promotion is over they are getting back to other more profitable coins and pool with automatic profit switching instead of directly mining Litecoin. Another thing that has probably lead to increase in the difficulty and Litecoin popularity (the spike in LTC price as well) in the last few days was the announcements of for LTC trading in two of the biggest crypto currency exchanges in China. And then there is of course the Gridseed with their BTC/LTC mining ASIC devices that are selling really fast and adding more and more hashrate to LTC and other Scrypt crypto currencies.
In the long term we should be seeing the price of LTC getting higher and the coin getting more independent from Bitcoin as it will also become harder to mine due to the increase in difficulty. Later this year we are expecting other companies that are making Scrypt ASIC devices to also start shipping more powerful hardware such as the 5 MHS and 25 MHS Alpha Technologies ASIC miners as well as the just recently announced 100 MHS Titan ASIC from KnCMiner. Other companies might as well release products and Gridseed will most likely as well offer a more powerful mining solution combining more than 5 chips in a single device. This all will inevitably lead LTC on the same way that BTC has gone already, taking away the coin from the many users mining with GPUs and moving the generation of larger amounts of Litecoins to the serious miners that can invest in a lot of ASIC mining hardware. All of this will bring forward other alternative cryptos that are not based on the Scrypt algorithm as ASIC devices designed for it will be able to mine all Scrypt coins, so coins with other algorithms may get more popular. GPU miners will probably move to coins using Scrypt-Adaptive-Nfactor, SHA-3 Keccak, Scrypt-Jane and other of the many algorithms.
