YadaCoin is Yet Another Project That has Forked to RandomX

It seems that another crypto project has moved to RandomX as a Proof of Work mining algorithm – YadaCoin. Yada is a blockchain social media protocol that uses YadaCoins for social interactions, and even though the project started in 2018 it seems to be slow in getting a lot of attention. We just recently discovered it thanks to the RandomX fork they had a few days ago and while we wanted to give it a try and mine some coins, unfortunately our efforts ended up in vain. We could not make the official Windows mining software to work (no pools yet, only solo mining), have not tried mining under Linux, though unfortunately there is not much information available to help… not even on the fork itself. It seems that unless you have been following the development from the start you might have trouble getting to understand how to make things work and that is never a good thing for a crypto project that wants to become mainstream, let alone one that wants to build a social media blockchain.

miniZ v1.5s Multi-Equihash Nvidia CUDA Miner with Improved Performance

The miniZ Nvidia GPU miner for Windows and Linux has been updated to version 1.5s and it brings some performance improvements for ZelHash, BeamHash II and ZHash – from 0.3% to 3% depending on algorithm and GPU used. The new version has removed support for old Nvidia Kepler GPUs, except for MinexCoin and Aion, though you can still use older versions of the miner for other algorithms should you need support on older Nvidia GPUs. The miniZ miner is still our preferred choice for ZelHash and ZEL mining and aside for the best performance we are also seeing an improved stability with the recent releases.

The MiniZ miner supports Equihash 144,5, Equihash 150,5, Equihash 150,5,3, as well as Equihash 192,7, Equihash 125,4, Equihash 210,9 and Equihash96,5 and the various crypto currencies that use these algorithms on compatible Nvidia GPUs. There are CUDA 8.0 and CUDA 10.0 binaries available including support for Nvidia RTX GPUS with the CUDA 10 release (check which version works better on older GPUs, CUDA 10 is required fo RTX). Have in mind that since miniZ is a closed source miner there is also a built-in developer fee of 2% percent included.

New XMRig 5.0.0 Stable Release With Unified CPU and GPU Support

After a number of 4.x beta releases here comes the XMRig 5.0.0 that is first stable unified 3 in 1 GPU+CPU release (first introduced in v4.5.0-beta), OpenCL support builtin into the miner and not require additional external dependencies on compile time, NVIDIA CUDA available as external CUDA plugin, for convenient, 3 in 1 downloads with recent CUDA version also provided (CUDA 10.1). This release is based on the 4.x.x beta series and include all features from v4.6.2-beta, so nothing that much new as features added in the latest stable release. Do note that version 5.0 has the algorithm cn/wow removed (previously used by Wownero) as the project now uses rx/wow – RandomWOW (RandomX variant for Wownero).

Lately we were following closely the XMRig miner software as the one mostly focused on the new RandomX CPU algorithm and its few already available variants, but now it seems that XMRig is getting some competition in the face of the SRBMiner-MULTI miner software that has recently added support for RandomX and variants and is already up to date in terms of performance. XMRig however still has the advantage of being open source and cross platform plus the Nvidia GPU support as SRBMiner-MULTI is a closed source miner available currently only for Windows with CPU and AMD GPU support for a more limited number of algorithms.
