ltcrabbit-mining-pool

As a long time and happy users of the LTC Rabbit mining pool we are happy to see that they have added support for X11 mining. The idea behind X11 mining support is pretty much the same as the pool’s idea for Litecoin mining – you mine X11-based crypt currencies such as DarkCoin and they get automatically exchanged for LTC and you are being payed in Litecoins. So people with GPUs that are moving away from Scrypt mining could consider mining X11 and still get payed in LTC as Litecoin mining is slowly moving to the ASIC mining domain and will continue to do so in the next months making it not so profitable to mine with GPUs anymore.

You are able to mine X11 at the pool by using the sgminer for DarkCoin on AMD-based GPUs as well as by using ccminer with X11 support that wwas recently released for mining with Nvidia-based GPUs. Currently we are seeing similar performance mining on AMD and Nvidia graphics cards, however we are soon expecting to see an updated for ccminer that will bring significant improvement to the hashrate we are currently getting on Nvidia. The most notable advantage of mining X11 is that the GPUs should be cooler and use less energy as compared to mining Scrypt for example, or at least we are seeing that on AMD GPUs. So now you have another interesting alternative available to mine no Scrypt-based crypto and still get payed in Litecoins.

The company Zeus has released an update on their website about the current progress for the ZeusMiner Scrypt ASICs that they already promised to start shipping by the end of this month. They have just announced that they will be starting to ship the first 500 orders from May 20th to latest May 25th, so apparently they are a bit ahead of the previously announced schedule to start shipping by May 31st. Another interesting thing is that the company will be releasing the miners not pushed to the maximum and promises an update that will allow users to further increase the hashrate later on. Also the company has announced that they will give out a second free miner, one that is a level lower in the product line than the ordered by the customer, so only the Blizzard customers will not get a second free miner with their orders. There is also a not so good quality video published from the company’s assembly factory in Shenzhen, China that you can see embedded above. So far things are looking pretty good for Zeus and their ZeusMiners and the only problem we currently find is that they do not have an official distributor in Europe for example to make it easier to get their products as they will be shipped from China.

We have decided to order one of the smallest 1.2 MHS Blizzard ZeusMiners in order to be able to test it and publish our hands-on experience with the Zeus Scrypt ASIC chips that are also used in the bigger miners. There are two options to pay directly to ZeusMiner, with BTC/LTC via CoinPayments or with Direct Bank Transfer, obviously using coins would be easier and faster and with no extra taxes from the bank. The price of the small Blizzard ZeusMiner is $199 USD and the shipping we got to Europe was $53.98 USD, so pretty steep price for shipping a small package from China, unless express courier service is used. Our order number was #2054, so apparently a lot of people have ordered Zeus Scrypt ASIC miners already with the company close to start shipping the actual units. We’ll keep you updated how things progress with our order.

MinerEU, Gridseed official distributor, has just informed us that Gridseed has signed an exclusive contract with Innosilicon to produce and distribute A2 Scrypt ASIC chips and miners globally. The advanced 28nm Scrypt ASIC A2 has 1.6-1.8 MHs hashrate and 10W on each chip. With a 1000KW PSU and the right cooling fans, a new A2-based miner can achieve up to 150 MHs hashrate.

The A2 chip is developed by Innosilicon’s teams based in Silicon valley and China and is the first 28nm Scrypt ASIC to hit the market. The global exclusive contract with Gridseed, the first Scrypt ASIC chip manufacture in the world, means the two most advanced ASIC producers will be able to provide better products and services for our mining community.

This new partnership will most likely mean that these new miners will be able to beat the competition that has also been working on 28nm Scrypt ASICs such as KnCMiner and Alpha Technology in terms of delivery time. We still don’t have official information about expected delivery dates, but we consider that end of May may sounds like a reasonable and optimistic date to start deliveries of first units. We’ll see how things go, but the battle on the Scrypt ASIC market is already seriously heating up.

Update: It seems that this deal with Gridseed might have not been finalized as Innosilicon has published the following updated information on their website (the link above):

Up to this point (May 5th 2014), Innosilicon has not signed any deal on official reselling or distribution rights with anyone so any announcement from an non-Innosilicon source claiming any rights on A2 is false.

Update: And the above sentence has been removed from Innosilicon’s website and has been replaced with the following:
